Day 3 embryo thaw rates

Does anyone know whether or not day 3 frozen embryos are as likely to survive the thaw as a day 5? Or are the odds worse?

My day 3 survived the thaw but my clinic would only freeze top quality grade 1 on day 3 compared to freezing a wider range of qualities on day 5

@ivfbeenbusy thanks - I've got a top grade 8 cell frozen and trying to decide between doing FET or a whole new cycle

We've had 2 lots of IVF so far over 3 years (all had to be freeze all as I was in chemo) - our first round resulted in 2 top quality day 3 embryos so they were frozen day 3, one out back in 2017 resulted in our DS born 2018. We tried a second round of embryo creation in 2018 & got 4 embryos so they grew them to day 5 & froze. We used one in feb & got BFP but it went on to be missed miscarriage at 7 weeks. And today had the other day 5 put in.

If you have a top quality day 3 already frozen I would say use that first as a FET is much easier on your body & the success rates for good day 3 vs day 5 are very little difference now.

@Minster2012 thank you - all the best for your TWW, fingers crossed for a BFP xx

Thank you! And whatever you decide good luck!

Just a follow up on this in case anyone is ever researching the same thing! I subsequently spoke to the embryologist who said that a top grade 8 cell embryo has a low chance of not surviving the thaw (perhaps 3% or 4%) and it will retain its grade
