AMH tests and next steps

Hi all, we were referred for IVF to one of the NHS clinics in Scotland in July. This week we’ve received an appointment for next month for AMH, BMI and carbon monoxide pre treatment checks. I was honestly expecting at least 6 months before I heard a thing.

My question is how quickly have people found they started treatment after these tests? I’m prepared for a treatment start date that is still quite a few months away. But surely they wouldn’t do these tests too far in advance as the results may change?

Hoping for some responses so I can prepare myself either way! Thank you 😊

Hi I got my bmi and carbon monoxide test done last March. It would have been a year from that to starting but then covid happened. Amh wasn't done until jan of this year tho. Also a Scottish clinic.

Pumpkinspice77 · 25/09/2020 14:13

Thanks for letting me know. What clinic are you? We’re Dundee. We’ve also had all our consent forms through to complete.

I'm sure we done the consent forms in November. I'm at Glasgow. Started my injections today😬😬

I got those done at my initial appointment with fertility clinic (Aberdeen) back in January - well bloods done with GP prior to referral.
Following month had a HyCoSy. Due to other factors and Covid we had appointments cancelled but in May this year we had our appointment where we decided IVF was the next step and officially put on the waiting list. Was told there was a four month backlog from Covid and then it's a usual 6 month waiting list so looking at 10 months altogether. I think it's gonna be around March next year before we get 'top of the list' and even then we might not get to actually start IVF that month. It's such a long wait, made even worse by Covid restrictions.

Pumpkinspice77 · 26/09/2020 09:19

Ah ok thanks for your response. I’ve had all of my fertility tests including hyscosy/day 21 bloods and officially referred to the clinic for IVF in July. We were also told 6 months waiting list pre covid and 9 months potentially post covid. Which is why I’m a bit shocked we already have our pre treatment appointment already. I guess I’ll just wait and find out what they say when I go. Although I am fully prepared for another 6 month wait before treatment.

I'm in Glasgow. Referred by GP in Dec '19, 1st appointment was Feb (I think?) '19. Still waiting on HyCoSy. Have an appointment in November unless it gets cancelled.

Pumpkinspice77 · 26/09/2020 18:40

Ahh ok. I don’t think the Dundee ACU does the fertility tests - just the treatment. I would have had my tests done in a local hospital but I ended up getting my tests privately as the wait for them on the NHS was held up due to a Covid.

@Pumpkinspice77 just gonna jump on here hope you don’t mind. We were referred to Dundee at the beginning of August and I have just received all the paperwork through the door this week. We have filled it out and have a phone appointment next month. Did you have this? What information were you told? I’m still expecting a wait but like you this is all sooner than I thought so not sure when it’ll start. Thanks!

Pumpkinspice77 · 06/10/2020 18:43

Hi Louise, thanks for your message! I think we were referred a week or two before you! So I phoned up last week to change my address and asked about the waiting list and was told that in the next few weeks I’d either receive an in person appointment for bloods etc or a phone appointment with a consultant but she didn’t know which would be first! Then the next day my appointment came to go in for AMH tests etc. No phone appointment yet but I am guessing that will come after the AMH tests. I’ll report back after my appointment next week and let you know what they say! What info did you get about the consultant appointment?

Pumpkinspice77 · 06/10/2020 18:44

Sorry I’ve just assumed your phone appointment is with a consultant, please correct me if I’m wrong 🙈

@Pumpkinspice77 thanks for your message! The letter just says a telephone appointment with the clinic, it doesn’t say who with. We have to fill out all the paperwork they sent and send it back before the appointment, which we’ve already completed! There was lots of paperwork. That’s good news about your bloods. I wonder if we’ll get an appointment for that or if we’ll have our phone consultation first. Our appointment is in about 4 weeks. Have you had paperwork? That would be great if you don’t mind reporting back after your bloods. Happy things are moving!!

Pumpkinspice77 · 06/10/2020 19:49

Yes we have had paper work and I’ve to take it to my appointment next week. Can’t come quick enough if I’m honest!

@Pumpkinspice77 Oh so sounds like we are almost at the same stage. I’ll keep an eye out for my bloods appointment!!

Pumpkinspice77 · 13/10/2020 14:23

@LouiseCald Hi hope you’re ok - just to give you an update! I had my AMH bloods taken which the nurse said go to Glasgow for testing and she’ll get the results in around 10 days. She’ll then devise a protocol based on the results vs my age etc which she’ll send to the consultant who’ll do the final sign off. Consultant will then phone me with the treatment plan in around 6-8 weeks. Next stage is baseline scan but she said that won’t be until the new year as they close for a few weeks over Xmas. But it does sound like these are the first steps before treatment which is really exciting!! Let me know how you get on with your phone appointment.

@Pumpkinspice77 that’s great news!! Thank you so much for letting me know. That all sounds super positive and you’ll be starting in the new year. It’s the day we all wait for knowing when it’s all going to kick off. I’ve not had any appointment through yet for my bloods but will see what they say at the phone consultation. We are maybe referred for different reasons so adopt different procedures for starting. Thanks again for letting me know!

willithappen · 19/10/2020 08:25

Super strange as I too just got a letter in the door for a video appointment next month and all the paperwork to fill out too! I was expecting March next year before hearing so hearing earlier is good!

Following on to see how you both get on but I may but at the same stage as you just a couple weeks behind

Pumpkinspice77 · 19/10/2020 13:04

Hi @willithappen. How are you? Are you at Dundee too? I wonder why I had blood tests first then a phone consultation but you both have a phone consultation first?!

OP posts:
willithappen · 19/10/2020 13:23

@Pumpkinspice77 I'm at Aberdeen :)
The letter did say I'd have video appointment and then an appointment would be made with a nurse after that. Got the leaflets about the blood tests and what they are for etc with it all too.

It's strange how things are all different isn't it!

LouiseCald · 08/11/2020 21:48

@Pumpkinspice77 hello, thought I’d drop you a wee message to let you know that my consultation got cancelled 😢 it was due to a covid absence with the consultant. It’s be rearranged for next month now. Hope you’re well!

Hi Ladies, I appreciate that this post was over 3 years ago but would love to hear updates as I am now due to have my first ivf appt at dundee too. Did it work out for you ladies?

Scirocco · 10/03/2024 21:02

Hi @Eagerlywaiting1990 good luck! There's an IVF Scotland thread on the board so if you find that then you might be able to get some up to date information. I wasn't at Dundee, but I did have a successful cycle in the end.

Mrsmch123 · 10/05/2024 08:58

@Eagerlywaiting1990 my round was successful and he's now nearly three!hope things are going ok for you😊
