How short cycle prevents OHSS

Hi Ladies,

I have PCO (not PCOS) and had a long protocol last year.. ended up having OHSS with 29 eggs collected and had to go for freeze all ( no transfer !)

My clinic suggested short protocol with 150 menupor dose and today on first scan post 7 day trigger found 23 follicles..mixed feeling about it as i am again heading towards OHSS. Wonder how a short protocol helps in avoiding OHSS ?? I am finding myself in similar situation again and afraid not having fresh transfer again.

Hey OP - not got an answer I'm afraid. Its probably one to ask your doc next time your in, although interested to know if anyone on here knows. For what its worth I'm on a short protocol and we are talking about a freeze all to prevent OHSS because I've got a lot of follicles. My doc says that the rates between fresh and frozen are really similar and I've read articles that say that the pregnancy rates from frozen is better. So I'm not sure if it makes a difference in the end, although again interested to know what others think as this is my first cycle. Good luck!

@Peachy1381 Hoping i get an answer..Wonder if your clinic offers a frozen cycle if a fresh cycle results in freeze all ?

My clinic did a substitute cycle last year for me but not sure if they will do this time.

If you dont mind, may i ask how many follicles you had and what is your clinic's standard to go for 'freeze all'

The problem is it's not just about follicle numbers - i had 14 eggs so not loads but still classed as OHSS as my e2 levels went really high. I know someone who had 5 follicles and OHSS again because e2 went too high. My 2nd cycle I drank loads and loads of water and avoided OHSS on the same dose of medication and then didn't have any problems at all when I changed again to natural modified IVF

Hi @ivfbeenbusy Thanks for your response. May i ask how much water you drank on daily basis to avoid ohss ? Anything else that you did ?

@duckhouse

I think it was 2 litres or more - I just remember it being a lot. I don't think I did anything else different x

@ivfbeenbusy Thanks for your response. I did the same in short cycle i.e. drank between 2 a 2.5 lts water and did the same in last long cycle but still OHSS in both cycles.

@Peachy1381
I spoke to the clinic today and thought of sharing this with you..they think i respond same to short or long cycle. In terms of difference, it is in the medication. For long cycle i was given buserlin to down reg whereas for short cycle i am on Ferymadel. Rest is the same in terms of trigger etc.
