Supplements, vitamins, etc - what do you take?

Hi all 😊 I'm nearly 39, have probable low ovarian reserve and MAY be considering IVF soon (not an ideal combination).

Egg quality is therefore a priority. I'm sure others may feel the same.

What supplements, vitamins and/or natural therapies do you all take? And how much, where from, etc?

I take (daily):

  • Ubiquinol 200mg
  • Vitamin B6 100mg

Also:

  • Acupuncture / reflexology
  • Chinese fertility tea (local Chinese doctor gives me a blend of herbs)

Anything else you'd recommend? Or advise against?

I take:

Ubiquinol 300mg
Vitamin D spray
Fish oil (not cod liver)
Proceive max (multi vitamin containing folic acid)
Royal jelly
Wheatgrass

Mostly from Amazon! Who knows if it makes any difference. But out of all of those you should most definitely be taking folic acid and vitamin D.

Racinglikeapronow · 14/09/2020 10:14

I take:

Vitamin c 500 x2 a day
MorDHA x2 a day
UNOCardio plus vitamin D x1 a day
NAC x3 a day
Procieve for women x2 tablets a day
P5P x1 a day

I took ubiquinol for a year between my 1st and 2nd round and had my worst round of ivf. I spoke to a fertility nutritionists who said it was probably amping up my system as I was stressed and to stop it and she put me on the above instead.

shazzz1xx · 14/09/2020 10:42

I only took folic acid and vitamin d (boots own all in one tablet) was advised from my specialist after a previous miscarriage on my 1st ivf cycles when I did actually take pregacare etc

And what would you know the second cycle worked :)

CC81 · 14/09/2020 12:29

That's really interesting! Maybe 'less is more', for some people. But I wonder if the B6 is helping my hormones, as before I started taking it I had several days of spotting before my period, on a couple of cycles.

I think the lesson is definitely to check these things with a doctor. If we go for IVF, I think I might stop everything except folic acid and vitamin D, until advised otherwise. In the meantime I figure it can't harm (for natural TTC).

I am actually taking Proceive Max, too (forgot to mention it!).

Has anyone had any side effects from the supplements?

Weswoo · 14/09/2020 16:50

@MF1981 I haven't, no

Vea1601 · 14/09/2020 19:25

I take a ridiculous amount and spend a sodding fortune.
Ubiquinol
Zita West pregnancy plan
Zita West DHA
Royal jelly
Bee Propolis.

And evening primrose oil in the first 2 weeks of my cycle...

BrandyM · 14/09/2020 23:40

@Vea1601 same here! I spend a small fortune on supplements. Here is mine @CC81 -

Advanced multivitamin- contains 400mcg of folate and 100mg of ubiquinol
Folate - another 400mcg to top up the one on the multi vitamin
Ubiquinol - 300mg to top up the one on the multi vitamin
Fish oil
Vitamin C
Vitamin D3 drops
Vitamin E
Iron
Ashwaganda

In addition to those, I drink nettle and raspberry leaf tea as well.

@MF1981 no side effects so far...

I have no idea if any of it helps but with my IVF fast approaching I'm doing all I can to conceive naturally and hopefully cancel the IVF!

CC81 · 15/09/2020 08:47

Thanks everyone.

How did you decide how MUCH to take each day? Did you read recommendations from anywhere?

OP posts:
BrandyM · 15/09/2020 09:20

@CC81 I got mine from the book 'It starts with the egg' by Rebecca Fett. Smile

Sian7919 · 16/09/2020 20:52

Has anyone experienced waking up early like 5am from taking Ubiquinol?

Daffodil21 · 17/09/2020 20:33

I take:

Ubiquinol (sp?)
High strength vit D
Omega 3-DHA
R-Alpha
Methylfolate

And about to start taking NAC and liquid iron with b vitamins.

I also got the quantities from its starts with the egg' as PP.

I don't take vit c but I make sure I consume enough of it per day through food.

Not pregnant so who knows if it's doing any good!!

seven201 · 19/09/2020 13:39

I take lots as I made the mistake as I read it starts with an egg. I must have spent thousands by now and still no baby and on third embryo transfer. It's always the thought of 'maybe' it will help that keeps you buying them.

I used to do acupuncture too but stopped as the costs were mounting up!

CC81 · 22/09/2020 19:05

Those who take DHEA - where do you get it? Amazon or similar?

Our private clinic consultant said dosage would be 25mg x3 times daily.

OP posts:
KatBeCool · 23/09/2020 22:55

Here was my list that I got from the clinic:
Prenatal multi
NAC (N-acetyl-Cysteine)
Fish oil (3000mg a day minimum with every meal)
Myo inositol with d-chiro inositol
Bioastin (Hawaiian astaxanthin)
Ubiquinol
Selenium (took it every 1-3 days)
K2 (also every 1-3 days)
Melatonin

They recommend 5000iu of vitamin D but I had mine blood tested and had very good levels already so I wasn't taking that much.
They also mentioned l-arginine but I just couldn't shove any more supplements.

@CC81 don't take DHEA without having your levels tested (testosterone, DHEA and DHEA-S). Having too much of it will negatively affect egg quality.

CC81 · 24/09/2020 08:27

Thanks @KatBeCool - I'll take that on board. Smile

Can I ask does anyone stay on these supplements once pregnant? Apart from the folic acid? X

CC81 · 06/07/2021 19:11

Quick update to this thread - we ended up getting pregnant naturally, not long after.

I will be 39 soon with low AMH 2.6 pmol and considering IVF too. I am taking prenatal with methylfolate NAC and Ubiquinol-400mg, vitamin C, vitamin d.

Don't know why but I feel this supplement plan is impacting my eggs negatively. I had two early mc last year.

Anyone know if too much of supplements can work negative for you?

HopefulllHolly · 22/02/2024 08:58

I take Wild Nutrition Fertility (includes 400 folate)
Ubiquinol 600mg (recommended dose by fertility consultant)
Vitamin D 2000 (recommended dose by fertility consultant)
Zinc
Vitamin C
Selenium
Fish Oil

plus a few others for general health.

The main ones my consultant said to raise and ask about were folate, vitamin d and ubiquinol, so I’ve doubled my dose on all of those, but I have been taking them for 8 months prior to starting IVF, longer for some of them!
