Strange question - skincare like retinol/tretinoin during treatment

I'm of the feeling that I'll continue to use these products until I see a positive test (if I ever see one of course). What do you think?

My skincare routine gives me a little joy, sorry if that sounds tragic, and I kind of resent having to stop everything all the time for no reason as yet.

Anyone feel the same?

@monsterad what has your clinic advised? Our nurse said the general rule of thumb is if it’s safe in pregnancy it’s safe during treatment.

The reason retinol is not advised during pregnancy is because it can cause birth defects, these same defects can cause issue with your eggs. Its recommended that you come off any type of vitamin A (which is what retinol is) 3 months before trying to conceive.

Hi @monsterad - I read up on this and asked around a lot before my cycles, and my doctor wasn't bothered, and I did also find a study in a journal that said the actual levels in shop bought (not prescription) retinol are so low and don't absorb that well into the skin that it wouldn't have an adverse affect on fertility/pregnancy.

That being said, I wouldn't use it after a transfer but between IVF cycles I really think is fine. Infertility can last years and if you do find something that gives you a bit of joy, you should grab it!

That being said, for you own piece of mind, you should check with your doctor first - the bottle I showed mine he said was fine to use, but maybe that was so weak the retinol was negligible. Another cream or something may be different.

I think I'll stop all tret and retinols etc. It's not worth it in the end
