Any clomid success stories?

Hi, we have been TTC for 2 years now. I was referred to fertility and diagnosed with PCOS. Very irregular periods and was started on metformin...been on this for 6 months and cycles regulated to 45 days. I have had my first cycle of clomid and I got positive opk on CD13 so I am over the moon!! Still also taking metformin. I am now 2dpo and the wait is already killing me. Either way, I am really happy that the clomid has worked perfectly to make me ovulate on time!
I was wondering if anyone has any stories?

Hi Sarah, how are you getting on with this? I've just completed my first round of Clomid and I also take with Metformin. Fingers crossed for you.

Sarah5678 · 24/09/2020 14:47

Hey! Onto my 2nd cycle now as my period came but everything waa bang on time, should hopefully ovulate again at the weekend. My progesterone blood test came back good last time. After cycle 3 they will do hsg if not pregnant. Hoping it works as well as it did the 1st cycle!

How have you been on the clomid? It definitely makes me feel sickly. Have u had your bloods done? X

Everything is sounding promising for you, fingers crossed the second round is successful. I should be ovulating mid week and I have my blood test booked for day 21, which is a Friday so I won't find out the results until the Monday (I'm not the most patient person!)
To be honest I haven't found the side effects too bad, I think I was expecting it to be much worse. I just had some hot flushes and slightly moody the first couple of days, poor husband. How about you?
Do you think the Metformin has helped you at all? I've been on it coming up to a year and I'm not sure I've noticed much difference however, I have read on here it works much better together with Clomid. X

Sarah5678 · 27/09/2020 07:22

Oh fingers crossed for you! I'm not very patient either even thogh I knew I ovulated from positive opk. Think I started metformin about feb time and no I haven't noticed much difference. This 1st month i lost 9lb and it shortened my cycle about 10 days and then after that it done nothing!

I read that taking them both together gives you a better chance too! I hate the 2ww!

Hi. I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS and had my appointment at the fertility clinic last week where I was told I'll be prescribed clomid soon (delays due to covid backlog). They didn't mention metformin though which everyone else seems to be told to take alongside clomid. Not sure if I should get back in touch to ask for this too but see from both your comments you haven't noticed much difference. Can I ask if you're going through the NHS or privately for clomid?
Really interested to follow both your stories. Wishing you loads of luck! X

brownie100 · 27/09/2020 18:20

Hi @cmacc I'm currently going through NHS, I know there is definitely a backlog, i was prescribed Metformin about a year ago to try initially, I then had a laparoscopy in March where they performed ovarian drilling, however although my progesterone had improved, it was still below 30. I think I started at 1 and got to 28 on my last blood test. Which is why I'm now trying clomid. I wouldn't worry about the Metformin, as I understand Clomid is meant to be the more successful one. Have you been tying for long? Have you had many tests etc? Do you know when you'll be prescribed clomid? So many questions 🙈
Good luck, I'm sure we'll all get there. X

brownie100 · 27/09/2020 18:21

Also @Sarah5678 I meant to ask what strength of clomid are you ok? They've started me on 50mg. X

Sarah5678 · 27/09/2020 18:57

Hey @cmacc I am going through nhs fertility clinic. They started me on metformin 1st to see if it could help me lose some weight. Clomid is definitely more effective and can be taken on it's own. I think every clinic does things differently!

@brownie100 I also take 50mg x

Hi @brownie100 @Sarah5678 thank you both for your replies. And thanks for the info about metformin. I've been told I'll be prescribed 3 months worth of clomid and if not pregnant then I'll have my tubes checked for any blockages. I'm hoping to be prescribed within the next few months. I'm literally just waiting on the fertility clinic being back to full operating hours. They're on a reduced service due to covid.
We've been ttc for a year and a half. OH is totally fine. I've had all my bloods done, hormones checked and an internal scan. I've only had 1 natural period in the year and a half since I came off the pill. Also got hormonal acne and high AMH hence the PCOS diagnosis.
Do either of you take any supplements? Inositol or anything? X

Sarah5678 · 28/09/2020 11:01

@cmacc sounds like your clinic does it the same as mine, I get 3 rounds of clomid and then thr hsg too so they can see if my tubes are blocked and then continue on clomid for another 6 months. My hormone levels were fine, had internal scan which they diagnosed me with pcos. I had natural perioda but were at least 50-100 day cycles. I just take asda's conception tablets and that is all x

Hi, I'm hopefully starting clomid next month. I'm having private treatment so will be having initial bloods and a scan next week and then starting the cycle whenever AF arrives.
It's interesting to see how private vs nhs treatment differs. I had successful clomid treatment 2 years ago on the NHS which resulted in my DD so am hoping we will be lucky again. 🤞 for everyone too!

Sarah5678 · 01/10/2020 11:31

@starfishy how long did it take you to conceive once you started clomid if you don't mind me asking?

OP posts:
starfishy · 01/10/2020 13:21

It was the first month and we'd been trying for 2 years. We did SMEP that cycle too.

starfishy · 01/10/2020 13:25

I also did ovulation sticks to see when I ovulated which was CD15. I still spotted daily from CD 21 so it didn't help with that (I always used to spot a week before AF due and now it's even worse) but it seemed to not matter.

Sarah5678 · 01/10/2020 13:48

Ah wow that's great! I am in the 2ww now on my 2nd cycle of clomid. I also do ovulation tests and have ovulated on day 14 both times

OP posts:
brownie100 · 01/10/2020 21:23

It's nice to hear a successful story @starfishy
When can you test from @Sarah5678 how do you get on with the ovulation test? I've had mixed readings and it just confuses me. I've been using the clear blue ones and I'm on day two of flashing which means high, but not peak 🤯

Sarah5678 · 01/10/2020 21:29

@brownie100 I could probably test from Monday but I don't test early anymore after having a chemical last year. I just use the little stick ones and once I get my peak I stop doing them x
