Egg Quality

Hello everyone,

Just seeing if anyone has been in a similar situation and what their experiences are.....

So our 1st IVF ICSI cycle resulted in 5 eggs collected and only 1 blastocyst by day 5, (poor quality) We are starting round 2, with an increase of meriofert (from 225 to 375 this time)
I'm just wondering if this will potentially improve the quality of the eggs or whether this is just how I am, and need to come to terms with this somehow.

Thanks for reading :) xx

Hi, first thing to say is try not to stress about quantity of eggs and embryos, you just need one to work. The consultant told me that even people who don’t have fertility problems don’t get 100% perfect embryos/eggs each month.
I had a more eggs collected for each of my 3 Ivf cycles but hardly any embryos made it to day 5 each time. By the third cycle I did loads of research about how to improve egg quality and found papers about increasing protein intake. I had a protein smoothie every day (peanut butter, pea protein, spinach and milk) and ate a small box of nuts, as well as eggs on toast etc. Went a bit mad for the 3rd cycle but it worked and my LB is now 18 months old. Who knows if the protein made any difference but at least I felt like I was doing something!
Good luck, it’s an awful and heartbreaking journey but it’s worth keeping going for as long as you can x

Hi. We have just had our second round of icsi (currently in the tww).

First time aroung on 450 of meriofert we got 19 eggs but only 1 fair quality blast by day 5 and a BFN. 9 months later our second round still on 450 as its the max but this time got 16 eggs and have a top quality blast on board with 4 in the freezer! So things really can change. I took stronger vitamin D supplements and ubinquol and ate healthier. Fingers crossed for your second round

Sorry that first one is a typo it should say 10 not 19

Ohh wow, that's so good to hear! Congrats on your little boy!!! You must have been over the moon when you saw those 2 pink lines!
I've done a bit of research and taking CO-Q10, Vitamin D, Cod Liver Oil and Folic Acid. Who knows if it will make any difference, I guess only time will tell. It's definitely worth trying increasing the protein intake, thanks, will give it a try. How long before your 3rd cycle dis you introduce it? Egg collection is booked for 21st.xx

Good luck Mseddy, I hope you get your BFP this time!
Sorry for asking, but what is ubinquol? X

@rollypops thanks! He’s an amazing LB. couldn’t believe the 2 lines, I’d started to accept that it wouldn’t ever happen tbh.
I think I started the protein about 3-4 weeks before egg collection and carried it on during the 2ww too x

Thanks so much for your advice. It's not too late then 🙈 I'll get to it! Xx

Every month is completely different and the same protocol one month that doesn't work can mysteriously have good results the next

All I would say though that for me I also had terrible egg quality but we took a gamble and reduced all the drugs right down and changed to natural modified IVF and has much better success rates (now pregnant with twins from the cycle where I got 2 eggs)

@Rollypops ubinquol is the transient form of coq10 enzyme. I took the cheaper coq10 the first time, but I changed to this version a few months ago. It's alot more expensive, about £35 for a months worth. But I wanted to try everything!
