Cyclogest

I've just started cyclogest pessaries in prep for my FET. I'm using them rectally as that's what my clinic recommended. Is it normal for them to come out when you go to the toilet? It was 6.5 hours ago I had one last.

Sorry for the TMI post but worrying a bit!

I think so. My clinic says vaginally and there's definitely leakage after that. It's only the waxy "carrier" stuff that comes out though, the hormones been absorbed so I wouldn't worry.

I'm sure I read it takes about 15-20mins for the progesterone to be absorbed, so now I sit down for half an hour after each one to be sure. So yours will be fine.

Horrible things.

After 6 hours I wouldn't expect the whole thing to come out it should just be a white residue?

jodesxx · 20/08/2020 13:42

@ivfdreaming it wasn't the whole all in one, more just bits but some seemed quite large.

@Pinkstars2501 interesting they said to do yours vaginally as she specifically said to to it rectally if you can.

I think it's just varies by clinic to be honest. I don't think I've seen any two cycles the same in the time we've been talking to people going through it.

You've got loads of blood vessels in your bum - those hormones get absorbed pretty quickly. That's why Whitney Houston had cocaine blown up her arse (allegedly). It hits the spot pretty quickly (and doesn't affect your singing voice).

😂😂 @79andnotout

Totally normal @jodesxx ☺️

79andnotout · 21/08/2020 07:22

Hmm I just checked my cyclogest prescription and it says I have to use mine vaginally, which is annoying, as I'd much prefer the bum option!

It says vaginally for ivf, vag or rectum for other uses.

VenusStarr · 21/08/2020 11:10

That's interesting @79andnotout

79andnotout · 21/08/2020 11:21

I will ask my consultant about it when I'm next in @VenusStarr. As far as I can see from the research papers, one way isn't more effective than the other way.

I was told either way gets into your blood system in less than an hour, anything that comes out is just the wax that carries the hormone, so you should expect some to come back out!

I mixed and matched between front and back end on my last cycle. Depended what mood I was in 😂

@79andnotout I must try that Whitney Houston trick, sounds like it could be fun 🤣
