Hi all. Wondering if anyone can help.

Dh has had a couple of sperm tests and the first one the doc just said ‘oh there is not much there’ so need to get another test done to confirm MFI. He said we’d need referral to the hospital afterwards.

We’ve just had another test and the doctors surgery have just updated his online test results saying gonnerea test is clear, no further action. So with two tests for fertility we’ve had no actual results about sperm motility count etc. I’ve rung to query it and no one will speak to us. They are making us wait until the middle of September to speak to the doctor.

Is this normal?.

I do realise they are busy with Covid and catch up but it looks like they’ve done the wrong test. Just feels like a big waste of time. Sorry long post but frustrated.

With sperm tests they need to test it there and then within an hour really so results should be instant I think so it’s crazy they’re making you wait so long for them!

Thank you for replying. I’ll keep nagging and see if we can get some answers sooner.

It took a week for my partners semen tests to come back from my private clinic. My tests came back the next day. So I assume some tests they do on the semen takes longer?

Done two private SA and both came back the same day. They only have like an hour's leeway to do it so should be relatively quick

SA results took about three weeks for us in Northern Ireland.

They went to the GP, who really didn't want to discuss them over the phone AT ALL and noises were made about referring back to clinic. It was only when DH called a told a white lie about going private due to covid that we got the results of both in the post with a very clear diagnosis that genuinely could not have been misread at all but I guess it is protocol. GP seemed really unsure about discussing it all.

Yes sperm has to be tested within an hour if need to still be warm xx

shazzz1xx · 20/08/2020 12:15

It needs*

Thanks everyone. This is really helpful. We were just getting frustrated as these tests have taken 8 months in total due to Covid, work patterns and errors with requests.

Apparently there is a report waiting we just have to wait for mid September for the doc to call us and tell us the results. As you say limesoda the docs seem really reluctant to tell you anything over the phone.

So stressful, the waiting game. So much luck with it!

good luck with it. I have done 2 test and they've both had to be analysed straight away with you getting the results a week or two later. That was pre-covid though. There is 3 things they look for, total number, number alive and moving, number that look right (one tail, one head etc). Mine was a normal total number, but the other two were half what they should be and we got a BFP last month without anything more than me taking zinc and d-aspartic acid supplements.
