FET with a low grade 2CC embryo

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had success with a 2CC or lower embryo quality. I’ve been for my frozen transfer today which felt like it went as badly as it possibly could 😞. I arrived 10 mins early and accidentally went to the loo when I arrived and you’re supposed to have a full bladder. I was nervous and on my own so didn’t even think. I suddenly realised as I was washing my hands and tried to drink loads of water. Before I’d even sat down in the waiting room I got ushered in to the recovery room and told to get changed. I said about my bladder and I knew I was the last patient as they’d brought my appointment forward but was told they would go ahead with it anyway, even though it meant they might not be able to see the uterus properly. It all felt very rushed and like the consultant just wanted to get home, and hardly said a word to me when I got in there. He seemed irritated when I asked if an empty bladder would make any difference.
I then left to get changed and asked what quality the embryo was that they’d just transferred and was told it was a 2CC. Pretty much the lowest quality possible. The embryologist came to talk to me and said he was sorry no one had been to talk to me before the procedure as they usually would. He agreed it wasn’t great but said there was still a chance. I just feel they’ve built me up for a massive fall and now I’ve got to wait for two horrible weeks to find out 😞
Any positive stories would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi I wouldn’t worry too much about the empty bladder thing. I had a similar experience where I had done a pee and not drunk enough but only because the last two times I was made to wait 1hour with a full bladder and wasn’t expecting to be called in early 😅 Anyhow the consultant scanned me and could see what he was doing fine, showed me the flash where the embryo went into uterus and everything. So I was confident it had gone in the right place. I don’t think they would proceed if the view wasn’t good enough. I’m sorry you had a generally poor experience though ☹️ I don’t have any 2CC embryo stories but wishing you the best of luck for OTD. X

Thanks for that @Lemongrass1, hopefully the bladder thing isn’t such an issue then. This whole process is such a rollercoaster. I already have a little boy from a very long process previously and obviously feel eternally grateful for him but the emotions are still there this time around and are still hard to deal with.

@Greenleaves20 We are TTC #2 too. Also incredibly grateful for our LO but this process is hard and the emotions that come with that are entirely valid. X

When I had a transfer back in January, my bladder wasn't full enough so they put a catheter in and manually filled it. Odd feeling...
I'm quite surprised they didn't do that for you. Such a small problem so easily rectified.

Tbh they've done that many that they're most likely confident enough with a partially full bladder. No need to be snippy with you, as if you weren't nervous enough.

My consultant kept telling me to relax my bum into the bed else I was going to push the speculum back at him lol. I have endometriosis and don't find speculums easy, I'm also short as fuck so it's not easy to relax into the bed when I feel like the stirrups are pulling me in the air 🤣

So I’m now 8dp5dt and I’m extremely thirsty which is the same feeling I had throughout my first pregnancy. I spent Sunday being extremely tired (6dp5dt). Going to do a test tomorrow morning, eak!

@Greenleaves20 good luck! Let us know how you get on. Hope it’s good news for you x

Greenleaves20 · 25/08/2020 20:31

Thank you @Lemongrass1, I will do. How are you getting on? X

@Greenleaves20 I’m way behind you, nowhere near the 2WW yet! Just waiting on AF after downreg to start progynova. Of course it’s late 🙄

Greenleaves20 · 25/08/2020 20:54

@Lemongrass1 of course it’s late! It likes to play mind games! Mine came unexpectedly early at the start of this cycle, obviously while I was on holiday. Keep us updated with how it goes x

Soooo.... despite the embryo quality and that the transfer didn’t go smoothly I tested today and got a BFP!!! Cannot believe it!!

@Greenleaves20 this is amazing!!!! Massive congratulations to you, just goes to show embryo grading isn’t everything ☺️
AF finally turned up for me today too 👍

Greenleaves20 · 27/08/2020 07:21

@lemongrass1 thanks! I know, I’m maybe starting to think that the grading is most just for the lab, and they wouldn’t have transferred it if it didn’t have a chance.
Good luck for your cycle, let us know how you get on. Is it a FET? X

@Greenleaves20 Huge congratulations!! That really is an awesome story of an embryo defeating all odds! I was really upset as my one of my top quality embryos didn't survive the defrost and I had a 5CC put in. Your story gives me hope!

Did you have any symptoms during the TWW that you thought were positive? The first day straight after embryo I had cramping but nothing since then. I have a gut feeling its failed :(

Greenleaves20 · 29/08/2020 08:49

I had some cramping in the first 24 hours with an intermittent pulling feeling after that. A bit of back ache here and there but I can’t say whether that was because of picking up my 18 month old (who was a much better 4BB from a fresh cycle). I assumed it was period pain starting. I had no symptoms with my LB that I can remember during the 2ww.

I was genuinely furious with the clinic for getting my hopes up but obviously I appreciate that they wouldn’t transfer a embryo without a chance of it working. Hard to believe it at the time though!

I also had an embryo that didn’t survive the thaw before my LB was successful. It was my only embryo and I remember that being the most devastating time of all the cycles I did tbh. I just thought it would never be possible.

Good luck with yours! When is OTD? Xx

@Greenleaves20 Wow it sounds like our experiences are very similar. This is my first IVF cycle (I also have a little one from a natural conception) and I also got a call saying my top grade didn't survive and I was devastated too. It really made me question embryo quality and whether all my embryos are just going to fail. Its such a heart wrenching emotional process. They also found scar tissue in my uterus after scans during stims and FET cycle, but the doctor said it was not in the place where the embryo would implant, and they said its absolutely fine to go ahead with the transfer. I just feel like there are so many odds against me :( I don't even know if I should have listened to the doctor now.

I can totally understand you being furious at your clinic! I would have been the same! Which clinic are you with if you don't mind me asking?

My OTD is 7th September but I feel like I just need to test early. It's hell waiting!

How are you feeling now? Any more symptoms?

.

Just updating this thread.

I caved in and tested at 6dp5dt and it was negative. I was having extreme tiredness so I really wanted to test.

Not holding out much hope now.

Greenleaves20 · 02/09/2020 19:11

It’s still really early @user1475505106. Don’t lose hope just yet, I don’t think many people get a bfp that early. Keep plodding on and doing what you’re doing! If you can hold out then wait at least another couple of days and even then it’ll be early

Hi all,
I have just had a fresh embryo transfer yesterday with a borderline quality embryo graded 2CC. Does anyone have any success stories of this grade embryo?
I am very anxious after retrieving 14 eggs and only ending up with 1 day 5 blastocyst that is borderline

hopingforbabynumber2 · 30/09/2025 21:37

Can I ask how you got on?
Iv just had a 2cc transfer 🤞🏻 was 3BB when it was frozen 😔

Greenleaves20 · 01/10/2025 02:41

Hi @hopingforbabynumber2 my 2CC embryo has grown to be a wonderful 4 year old who has just started school. Don't be disheartened, it's definitely possible ☺️

Oh congratulations, I’m so pleased for you!!
Thank you so much, you have just helped me with a very anxious mind! Hopefully the next 10 days will be easier now. Thank you 😊
