Changing NHS clinics

Hi, does anybody have any experience in transferring clinics for NHS treatment? I believe I have to go back to the GP to start with, but what I really want to know is how long it takes for the funding to get moved over to another clinic?? Was the process quite straightforward, or a complete pain??

Hello Ellie, I've done that, it was easy to change GP but i had to start a whole new referral (as it's to a different clinic) and had to redo most of the tests as a result.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm just trying to decide what to do for the best. Ditch my current clinic who I've lost faith in, but risk further delays by starting from scratch again. Tricky! Nice to hear that the process is quite easy though, thanks for that.

I know exactly what you mean. It was frustrating to have to do the tests again and I had to wait 5 months for my first appointment with the new clinic! But for me I think it was worth it. Maybe you won't have to wait that long in your area? Good luck! Smile

Yes, I guess it changes so much from area to area. Thanks again, I'll do some more investigating and weighing up!

Have you tried contacting your CCG to get your funding transferred rather than having a whole new referral? You wouldn't to redo tests then.

Hi, well I read the CCG policy but it sounds like the request to transfer funds needs to be supported by my GP. So fingers crossed it wouldn't be an entirely new referral like you say 🤞 It's just the actual process of shifting the funds that I wasn't sure what timescales we'd be looking at.
