Hi, I've finally contacted my GP after 2.5 years ttc. A nurse called me back for a phone consultation and asked me to book in for a blood test on day 21 of my cycle (I was on day 25 of previous cycle when she called). I'm confused about this as I have spoken to someone who went through fertility treatment previously and they said the blood test should be day 5 and then day 21 to check I've ovulated? Does anyone know why I would only be asked to do the day 21 part?

Hi @lavenderlove I had cd1-5 and cd21 blood tests, so I would double check. I was also referred for a scan and my partner for a sperm analysis. My GP needed this before he could refer us.

How long are your cycles? Just to say that cd21 blood tests are for if your cycle is 28 days. Mine are shorter so I went on cd19 which confirmed I had ovulated. The best time to go is 7 days before you expect af.

Good luck x

My GP only offered day 21 - it's to check progesterone levels to see if you've ovulated

@VenusStarr thanks for the reply. That's strange then, I wonder why they don't want me in on CD1-5. My cycles are shorter too, around 26-27 days long so I'll make sure to book in for 7 days before af thanks.

They told me that the blood test and sperm analysis is as far as they will go with us and then I will have to go private as I have a dc already. So I'm going to book that in once I have the results!

Thanks @MabelG maybe it is normal then. Maybe that's all I qualify for on the NHS with having a child already

I believe doing day 21 bloods is the first one they offer and then would do the earlier bloods if they find anything. It depends on your circumstances and symptoms

The only thing to remember with day 21 bloods is that yours might not need done in your day 21. It should be done 7 days after you ovulate to check that you actually did. Not everyone ovulates day 14 so depending on which day you ovulate would depend on which day of your cycle your 'day 21' bloods would need done

When I had mine they were .9 under what they expect, but then it turned out I had actually ovulated a day later than I thought I would. My cycles vary between 27-29 days so it was a longer one this cycle so the levels would have been high enough the next day to confirm ovulation.

Hope this helps!
