TTC with low motility

Does anyone have any experience of ttc with low motility?

OH had his semen analysis, everything on the low side of normal bar motility. 8% move properly, 6% are sluggish, 5% move but don’t go anywhere and the rest are immotile.

OH has finally quit smoking. He’s started taking vitamins, and stopped eating like a rouge toddler.

Does anyone have any success stories of ttc with low motility, or improving sperm quality?

I’m going for my HSG next month which will be my final test - so hopefully there isn’t anything wrong with my tubes (which would add an extra layer of complications).

We managed to conceive naturally with a sperm count that was low in all areas. Here are some of the things that helped us:

  1. Sorting OH's diet (probably the biggest factor - he had suffered from IBS for about 18 years but ignored it, he finally went to the doctor and started a low Fodmap diet which has helped a lot)

  2. Supplements - we used FH Pro for Men, which comes from America and is expensive but has loads of good stuff in it, and in good quantities unlike a lot of the supplements on the market. I also took the women's version.

  3. Timing - generally you are advised to have sex every other day over your fertile window to allow the sperm to replenish. However, where sperm quality is an issue it's often better to do it every day - the longer the sperm hang around in the testicles, the more likely they are to deteriorate.

  4. Underwear - OH changed to loose boxers from tight ones. Not sure this made a lot of difference but who knows!

Good luck to you 🍀

@MissHoney85 thank you this is all really helpful. It’s reassuring to know that you managed to conceive naturally.

I’m trying to get OH to sort his eating habits out as well as me putting myself on a diet to bring my weight down (lockdown has not been good for my waistline). He is like a small child at times, eating chocolate and crap at all times of day 🙄

We’ve been focusing on him not smoking initially & is cutting alcohol out completely (not a heavy drinker before). After a month or so his diet will be the next change.

He’s on vitamins at the moment, but will look into those to see if they help at all.

I do think the every day will cheer him up rather than every other though 😂🙈

He’s also bought some looser boxers.
