Conceiving after starting levothyroxine/underactive thyroid

What was your experience trying to conceive after starting levothyroxine? How long did it take?

I'm 29, we are on our 26th month of ttc.
I've had a chemical pregnancy with excessive bleeding; followed by a MMC at 10 weeks (blighted ovum) which took 5 months to properly resolve and a further MMC at 6 weeks (another blighted ovum) which only took a month but had some complications and trip to A&E.

After this I was offered blood tests which showed my TSH to be 49. I've been taking meds for about 8 weeks now, started on 50mg, last test showed TSH to be 6.65 so still needs to come down but is much better. Thyroxine was increased to 75mg.

I don't have any of the symptoms of an U/A Thyroid. My periods have always been like clockwork, maybe a little light but otherwise fine. I temp and do OPK's now and all suggest I ovulate regularly and at the expected time.

I know I've not been on the levothyroxine long and need to give it a chance but I'm so fed up of waiting and still having month's of not conceiving.
Just looking to hear other's (hopefully positive) experiences.

Sorry for the long message!
Cheers

Hi. I've just started this 2 days ago and typed into netmums.

Seen your message and didn't want to read and leave it.

I have had 2 mmc in a year and I was told to have my thyroid checked. I'm 3.67 and been put on 25mg dose. I've heard of many success stories, including my own doctor.

I hope you've had some progress.xx

My TSH was 4.5 and I was exhausted/couldn't concieve or had CPs. After 3 months on levo, I concieved!

75mg is very low. Try posting on the thyroid board on Health Unlocked. It's invaluable.

100 microgram brought mine down from 4.2 to 0.01 in 6 weeks which was bad !!! And then we gone down to 50 microgram it is climbing slowly upwards .... push your GP to have blood tests less than 2 months whcih was the standard for mine... the fertility clinic was charging us £50 so I got loads of private checks with them more often ....

Hi, thanks for your messages!
I have conceived again (two months after starting levothyroxine) and had an 8 week scan last Thursday - everything was fine then, strong heartbeat :) this is a first for us!

Fingers crossed I've gotten on top of the problem!

My last blood results showed my TSH to be 3.39, but during pregnancy they like it to be below 2.5, so I'm being seen by the endocrinologist and he has already increased my meds from 75mg to 100mg and will check again after 6 weeks.

I have been pretty persistent in asking for extra support - like the early scan and the review of my levels, and so far the hospital has been really good.

Hope you are all getting on ok as well!
