Egg freezing due to illness?

Hi, I’ve searched the different sections and this seems the most suitable but I feel really guilty posting here while I could be fertile

I’m considering egg freezing. I have a long term medical condition and am 35. I hope to be well enough in the next 10 years to have a child (it’s the most important thing to me) but I’m just not well enough currently and it could be another 5+ years which takes me to 40.

Has anyone been in this situation or know anything about it. Unrelated to my condition I do have PCOS and can go over 6 months without a period (although have been know to have a heavy period for a year at a time).

I have no idea where to start reading. I can find some things on egg freezing before medical treatment or all those private companies aimed at ‘busy’ women. I’m so scared of the hormones, One week of northisterone And it took 6 months for my moods to return to their normal self and I’m worried about triggering another super long non stop period but I don’t want to get to 40 and find I needed those eggs and regret my fears putting me off

Forgot to say I’m single too. I saw fertilised eggs survive better :(

The only way to know how you'll react to the hormones is to try them.
There are some fertility tests that would give an idea of how well your body might respond to the medication.

I'd contact a few clinics direct to see what they suggest. Don't rush or feel pressured.

If frozen embryos are better than eggs, then you'd want a sperm donor too.

If however you prefer to freeze eggs only in case you meet a man (assuming you're straight) that could be an option but look for somewhere that is good/experienced at it. If you only freeze eggs you won't know if they will fertilise or not.

Maybe you could do a mix of frozen eggs and embryos depending on how many eggs you get /how much you want to spend / how you get on with the hormones.

Probably also worth reading a few threads on here just to understand a bit about IVF, it's not always straightforward (not always complicated either but you might want to be prepared).

Also regarding your long term condition check if any medication you are taking for that is not advisable for TTC, or if anything needs to be swapped. Good luck.
