Hello,
Have any of you experienced side effects of taking Progesterone pessaries? If so, what were they and at what point from starting to take them did you experience side effects?
Thanks in advance

Yes, lots of side effects. They effectively have me all the side effects of pregnancy without being pregnant! Was nauseous and breathing changed from day 2 or 3 of taking them, breasts got heavier from around day 6 of taking them I think. Veins became more prominent just after that. They also keep me awake at night but also make me sleepy, which isn’t a great combo!

Sorry just remembered headaches too!

Same here. Always have side effects, especially nausea & sore breasts. Im on them now in the 2ww after letrozole + trigger.
Have u been prescribed them?

shazzz1xx · 05/07/2020 18:07

I’ve done 2 full rounds of icsi and the pesseries never gave me any side affects
They are just messy x

EL8888 · 05/07/2020 20:07

Irritation, bloating and constipation. Not going to lie, the side effects got way worse once l stopped taking them. Cue really sore vagina, agony when using the toilet etc

Very messy. Bloating, sore breasts. Annoyingly, they didn't maintain my lining well either.

Did anyone have a change in taste whilst on them? Not a metallic taste in the mouth but just food tasting different. Dr tells me its completely unrelated but it started 2 or 3 days after taking the pessary.

Ijustlikefood · 05/07/2020 22:01

Headaches, backache, constipation, nausea, light headed, very irritable too

Shamoo · 05/07/2020 22:04

Yes to the change in food taste - I actually completely lost my appetite in the end because I didn’t want anything. But it changed random stuff for me like tomato ketchup 😂

Thank you all so much for your replies.
I've only been on them for 3 days so far.

I was prescribed them after my last IUI a few days ago. This is my 6th IUI.
I have been pregnant twice over the last 18 months but miscarried both times. So this time I was prescribed Letrozole and these progesterone pessaries to see if this will help our chances.
My partner has said I've been really irritable the last couple of days but I didn't think I was and wondered if side effects would kick in so quickly. I've also been really tired in the day and have fallen asleep on the settee which I never do! But I've done it every day for the last 3 days..!

Really tired, swollen and tender breasts and fairly grumpy. I was quite nauseous for the first few days. Although I used the pessaries I also had Lubion injections every morning too which were really uncomfortable and gave me wicked bruises.

For the people mentioning that they were messy, the pessaries are a lot less messy rectally instead of vaginally.

BabySweet85 · 07/07/2020 22:46

I have had terrible side effects - been on them for 2 weeks now. nausea, bloating, cramps, dizzy, light headed, constipation. Nausea has been unreal. Boobs sore too.

LetMeIn321 · 09/07/2020 18:02

It's difficult isn't it because some of the symptoms experienced are similar to being pregnant. I feel so tired and could fall asleep at any time, that's how I felt early on in pregnancy, both times. I've also been having lots of headaches the last few days. I've been using these pessaries for only 6 days and already feel like this.

Done 5 cycles of ivf /pesseries and I don’t R.E.M. any ill effects

Just the leakage which at first worried me as thought losing the goodness of the hormones - but clinic reassured me all was fine a S ideally lie down for 10mins after inserting so don’t lose in gravity
