Hi, we've been ttc for 18 months. I had day 21 blood tests earlier in the year and all fine. Unable to have semen analysis due to covid. Local labs have no idea when they can retest again. We've booked a fertility mot for us both at a private clinic - bloods, amh blood test, pelvic ultrasound for me and then a semen analysis. Do you think we can then give these results to my GP to start an NHS fertility referral?

My GP accepted a private sperm analysis for my dh as his nhs one kept getting pushed back. We found somewhere local that did same day results.

I didn't need my amh doing for the fertility referral - I had cd1-5 and cd21 bloods and ultrasound. I also had triple swabs (std check) and I had to have my smear up to date. Might be worth checking with your GP what they need for the referral as I think each area is different.

Good luck

It would depend where you get referred to do treatment, if an NHS unit they likely have a system where everything needs repeating regardless and having your own wouldn't speed things up

It's more that we can't get a referral until we've had the tests. And we can't get the tests atm

@Vea1601 my husband had his semen analysis done in NHS a few weeks ago, are you sure your local one isn’t open? For the fertility referral all the GP needs Are your bloods, smear test should be in date, chlamydia screen and partners sperm results. We have had all done Via GP in the last month or two and have had our referral accepted (appointment in October..!). Think the GP would be fine with private results they just might repeat them in the fertility clinic.

Unfortunately our area not testing at all. And have no plans to restart. I've rung the lab directly to ask myself.

That's rubbish @Vea1601
In that case I'd get the sperm analysis privately if you can. That way at least you'll know if there is an issue. Some private clinics ask if you give consent to share your results with your GP, you could potentially ask them to send he results to your GP for you, maybe with a cover letter (if there is a sperm issue) saying Mr Vea's sperm analysis suggests a referral to assisted conception service would be next step for this pleasant young couple who have been TTC for x time.
Check what your CCG criteria are for a referral, though if there is an identified issue that should be different.

Hi,
I’ve been ttc for over 3 years, we paid privately for all tests as I couldn’t bear the wait and not knowing if there was an issue. Tests taken were AMH, pelvic, hycosy, semen analysis etc, which thankfully all came back fine. All results were used by our NHS and I’m currently on the NHS IVF waiting list.
Good luck in your journey :)

@SH998 do you know how long the NHS IVF waiting list is that you are on? And do you mind me asking what happened at your first NHS fertility appointment? We have had all tests privately except I have not had hycosy yet, have our first NHS appointment in 2 weeks. Thanks!

@marlie89
I was first seen by the NHS last July/August time, the first appointment was mainly to go through Background information, they also took a urine sample on my first appointment to confirm that there were no STDs present that could be preventing pregnancy. At that appointment I was told that I would need a HyCosy and 21 bloods to check ovulation. I was lucky to have had the HyCosy privately. I was told my particular NHS doctor only does 1 appointment per week so was carried out on a first come first serve basis, as It was based around your period it was difficult to prebook so that test alone could have taken months. They accepted the private results. The 21 day bloods were fairly simple as it was the blood clinic who took this which was a walk In Clinic. My second appointment was last October, this is when I was told I would be referred for IVF but my BMI was too high so until I lost the weight I couldn’t get referred. I’m sure this process was far quicker than i expected as they didn’t have to carry out any tests apart from urine and 21 day bloods. This June I lost the weight and was referred for IVF, due to the current situation there are delays but were advised a 6/8 month wait.
I’m fairly sure the HyCosy depends on your situation, my friends partner has a low sperm count so the test will not be carried out on her as they class him as the issue. My partners semen was fine, hence, me needing the HyCosy.
The next 2 weeks will fly by, please keep me updated On your progress, all the best and good luck 🤞🏼😊 x
