So,

I have a trip abroad that i cant get out of in just over 4 weeks. I cant change it and i have to go. Its only for 3 nights.

Im doing a medicated FET.

I told this to the clinic when i went for my planning meeting and the clinic said it was tight, but totally doable.

So, i start down regulating on friday 27th on day 2 of my period. My scan is booked for the 13th July. Id imagine my 2nd scan to check my lining is thick enough will be the week after....
My flight is on the 2nd of August.

By my working out, i sort of planned that transfer would be around 31st...

If any later, it will have to be cancelled as i need to isolate for 5 days before transfer.

Do you think its achievable?

It sounds very stressful. Personally (having not even started ivf yet) I'd probably cancel the trip but you said that's not an option so I wouldn't go ahead with it and delay the transfer to the next cycle.

Good luck 🍀

I think that’s do able (just!). What I think you should do depends on how much you like to take a gamble and how keen you are to avoid a bit of extra stress!

I’ve looked at the timings from my FETs (which were medicated) working on the basis of you having similar timings, I also think your transfer would be around the 30th/31st.

What I would do (if you can afford to and assuming you are having a medicated transfer) is aim to go ahead, they should be able to give you a definite date for the transfer when you have your endometrial thickness scan. Usually with a medicated FET once you’re given a date for the ET and you start the progesterone, that date is pretty fixed. If the transfer date you’re given looks likely to clash with your planned trip then cancel at that point.

Usually the date for ET is about 5 days after you start the progesterone so if you cancel after the endometrial scan, they won’t have defrosted your embryo then. It does mean you run the risk of wasting about £300 on scans and the cost of your medication, but if I was in your shoes I’m pretty confident I’d take the risk.

Am slightly confused by this bit of your post though
My flight is on the 2nd of August.

If any later, it will have to be cancelled as i need to isolate for 5 days before transfer.

Is the flight on the 2nd the one for the trip abroad which you can’t get out of? And am a bit confused why the fact that you have to isolate for 5 days before your ET means it can’t be after the 31st if your work trip isn’t until the 2nd? I think maybe I have misunderstood something in your post.

@EarlGreyT i think you have, but you have confused me, haha!
So by my working out, i think/hope transfer will be on the 31st, which is when i want it to be as i can easily isolate for the 5 days prior to the transfer.
If the transfer falls anytime after that, then im not going to be able to isolate as i will be on the trip (which i leave the UK on the 2nd) I hope that makes sense. Your first post pretty nailed the timings on the head as to what i was thinking

@VenusStarr the trip i cant cancel. Im not overly stressed about it, if it cancels, it cancels... id rather know asap though

So could you not transfer on 1st August at a push? Giving you a tad more flexibility?
I'd go for it in your position, worst case lining doesn't respond as expected and you postpone for a cycle, best case you have the transfer before you travel and get pregnant!

Bearsmum15 · 03/07/2020 19:58

Yeah, the 1st could work too. Gives us 1 extra day to play with.
If it does get cancelled, then so be it.
I was apprehensive about flying whilst being in my 2ww but then i remembered people travel abroad for treatment all the time and fly back after transfer.
If anything, its only a positive now as im a serial early tester, so it will keep me from those sticks!

Thanks for the reassurance, its very welcomed Smile
