Max dose IVF meds Gonal F / Menopur

Has anyone had experience of taking 300IU Gonal F combined with 150IU Menopur?

Our Consultant has suggested that combination for our third (and final) cycle after our previous cycles at 300IU Menopur and 375IU Gonal F (2 separate cycles on 1 med only) failed. We got a better result with the Menopur but sadly no pregnancy with either.

Interested in experiences and whether there is a marked difference in being on max dose when it comes to side effects / discomfort etc.

I was on 450iu menopur for my last cycle but it didn't work. This time I'm on 450iu gonal f. I didn't really notice a change in side effects (as in I had some mild side effects from the down reg drugs which persisted) except for I seemed to get a bit more fuzzy brained as it progressed. I have low AMH though so overly swollen ovaries were not an issue. I was expecting the side effects to be much worse than it was, they were t bad at all.

Thanks for your reply @SpyroC and sorry to hear about your failed cycle. It’s just so tough isn’t it.

I will be doing short protocol So no down reg. What is your AMH? Mine is 8 so as the doctor said, there is very little risk of over stimulation 😂 (albeit I did get 15 eggs from first cycle, only 5 second)

It really is tough isn't it! Here's hoping we both have better luck this time around. My AMH is 5 (at age 31😣). I did have 13 follicles growing so the hope is that as gonal f is slightly more aggressive than menopur that we will get more eggs. There's always the risk it could go the other way though. I'm happy to try something different but I do think there would be natural variation between cycles anyway.

I have just done my first gonal f and found it so much easier than drawing up from 6 vials of menopur!

Oh you’ve started now? That is exciting!
Good luck with your cycle!

Yes, it’s dawned on me that if/when we do start, it’s going to be more injections due to the 2 meds, but it’s a means to an end. I had mixing up to do with the first round, but found it strangely therapeutic (I’m weird, I know!).

Everything crossed for you.

@SpyroC did you have to do 6 vials every day?! I hate those things and am gutted the 150 vials are out of stock so I have to use 2x75 daily.

@Youngatheart00 I didn't have the same dose as you but have been doing 150 Menopur and 150 Gonal F for the last 3 stimulation cycles (very last one cancelled due to coronavirus but I'm hoping to start again over the summer).

My AMH is low, I think it was 2 last time it was checked.
The last two egg collections I didn't get lots of eggs but all the ones I did get were mature. That was stimming for 9 days, short protocol.

I did do a cycle a while back where my stims were 450 Gonal F daily but my current clinic did a blood test to see which stims they thought would suit me and fingers crossed it's doing as much as it can for my age and low AMH.

Thanks @Youngatheart00 you too. I think I'd do 5 injections if they told me it would improve my chances! The things we do.

@JeNeBaguetteRien yep 6 every day. It was such fun!

JeNeBaguetteRien · 03/07/2020 00:41

Oh @SpyroC!
I really complained at them sending me 2 per day. The first time I had Menopur I just made up a solution for 8 days and stored it in the fridge, I didn't have the pesky vials.
Can I ask if you then drew up a few vials into the same syringe? So you didn't have to inject 6 times?

SpyroC · 03/07/2020 09:00

I saw other people had that option-I was envious! No thankfully all drawn up in to 1 syringe using just 1.5 of the waters. It did come with enough needles for every vial so I was a bit worried before I had my nurse appointment. By the end of it I really hated air bubbles!
