When we were at our IVF meeting I was givin metformin. They said at the time because I had 50 follicles that was without meds and that it would help. So I took one the next morning I was ill all night being sick and diarrhoea . Rang clinic and they said to stop them as lockdown happened. I was poorly after one tablet for days. So been ringing clinic for info on restarting. Today they said to try and take the tablets they said take before bed which i am going to try said they will help improve chances for when we start IVF . I am frigened that I will be poorly again and I am at work to so if harder if I am. Does anyone have any tips how to help this and any success story of it many thanks xxx

Does the packet say SR or slow release? If not then ring your clinic or HP if easier and ask for a prescription for slow release Metformin they are a lot lot lot easier to stomach. If you can't get slow release then you must take on a very full stomach so 15 mins after you eat a main meal.

The side effects do calm down when you get used to them and they do work very well to prevent OHSS which is obviously why you have been given them as you really don't want all 50 follicles for react to the meds.

Good luck!

Hi @Fredsgirl19 yes I have slow release ones I took it last night and I have (touch wood) had a really good day. Had no horribe things happen. At the time they didn't explain this and I took on empty stomach i was ill so hopefully now taking on night will make it easy. I wish they explain it better at the time. Thanks for your reply xxx

How are you getting on @Hoping1 ? I take Metformin a day for PCOS, I'm having IUI and it was recommended for us too. I've just upped my dose from 1500mg to 2000mg this week and I've had such an awful upset stomach. I've been taking 1500mg for a year or so and it's never been this bad! I think it just takes some getting used to. Hope you're feeling better!

Hi since taking on a night I feel so much better. I havnt up it to the two tablet yet going to wait till I am off work so if i do get poorly I be at home. I dont think I have PCOS. All they said was I have over 50 folices without any meds. Taking metformin would help IVF chances when we can start again after all this covid. I hope you feel better soon it horrible what it does to you @BananaHammock23 xxx
