Should I take their advice ?

Went for my mid cycle scan today to see how well my eggs are comming along ( from taking clomid ) the nurse said I had 4 follicles on my left ovary and 2 on my right !!! She said she I should not have sex for the week whilst I ovulate. As there would be a increased risk of multiple birth. I only have one remaining tube ( left tube ) should i take their advice ? I want this so bad !!

What size were they?

ChicaXS · 17/06/2020 17:29

Was there a dominant Follicle?? Or were they all large enough to rupture an egg?

Lifesforloving1 · 17/06/2020 17:37

@JandL2020 @ChicaXS They were all pretty big , the left ovary had a 19mm & a
15mm and right two14mm ...

No I wouldn't try naturally - you've only just lost your last tube to an ectopic haven't you and you don't yet know If your remaining tube is actually working? You are significantly higher risk for another ectopic. Would you want to risk losing that final tube leaving only more expensive IVF as your only option to have a baby? so I would follow their advice. I know it's hard and you are probably thinking the chance of multiples is small but actually the chance is really high because you haven't had your egg quality tested by IVF and presumably you are on clomid because you don't ovulate naturally not because your egg quality is poor?

Lifesforloving1 · 17/06/2020 17:53

@ivfgottostaypositive
I agree with you , will follow there advice . Going to try naturally next month but still get scanned , am on the Clomid because i have pcos and wasn’t having periods .. they have been regular since taking metformin though .

I wouldn't, you would be at risk of high order multiples leaving you with an increased risk of miscarriage, premature birth and neonatal death. I know someone who didn't take the advice and ended up with quads from clomid

Lifesforloving1 · 17/06/2020 20:20

@Lauren83
I will be taking their advice thanks , Did the person you know successfully carry all the way through her pregnancy ?

OP posts:
Lauren83 · 17/06/2020 20:26

She did luckily, she carried until 29/30 weeks and all are fine now.

Lifesforloving1 · 17/06/2020 20:36

Wow , amazing !

Hopefully your treatment can be tweaked @Lifesforloving1 and conditions more favourable next month.

@Lauren83 I had read about a woman who had sex after a single embryo transfer and ended up having triplets.
I wouldn't do that personally and I now know about the risks but I always would have loved multiples (now would just be so happy if treatment ever works) .

ivfgottostaypositive · 18/06/2020 07:05

@JeNeBaguetteRien

I also tried naturally the Month of my double embryo transfer last year and ended up having a ruptured ectopic and losing my last tube.

This may be unrelated but my sister was in the same position several years ago. She didn't follow advice either and got pregnant with one child who has severe autism. Her subsequent two kids are fine so it's easy to assume cause and effect which may not be true. Probably just bad luck but since then DH doesn't want to try clomid. I guess if it were me I wouldn't have sex this cycle x

JeNeBaguetteRien · 18/06/2020 09:02

@chatwithme did your sister only use Clomid for her first pregnancy? Hope the family have some support.

@ivfgottostaypositive that must have been awful.
I know after transfer I didn't have sex because the clinic had said it could reduce chances, but the implication seemed to be it would somehow affect implantation. There wasn't any mention of other risks, it was just on a list of no sex, no swimming, no baths and possibly other things. The article I read (admittedly in a trashy magazine) had a tone of "oops, we were naughty but look how it paid off" so it stuck in my mind a bit!

Lifesforloving1 · 18/06/2020 09:06

@ChatWithMe
Wow , I take my hat of to her. I’m going to follow their advice and not have sex for the week. However I did have it Monday before I knew how many there were ! 🙄 am planning on doing a natural cycle next month . Xx

JeNeBaguetteRien I think she tried clomid for one of them but had less follicles so was advised sex ok. One of the kids was natural/lucky I believe. She had tried IVF before that actually but it failed. This was many years ago so hard to keep my facts straight lol Her child is attending a special school for autism so yes she has support thanks.

Lifesforloving1 oh good. Probably for the best Smile You don't have control over what's already been done and low risk so you can rest assure you're doing what you can to have a healthy baby. Fingers crossed for your next cycle Flowers

@ChatWithMe
Thankyou for you’re kind message Flowers xx

I've been told that by a doctor before. I was gutted to lose a month. It's not worth the risk.

Lifesforloving1 · 18/06/2020 14:34

@seven201
It’s not no . Am a bit worried though as I had intercourse Monday evening .... should ovulate tomorrow ... x

ivfgottostaypositive · 18/06/2020 15:30

@Lifesforloving1

You should be fine - I know people "say" sperm can live up to 7 days but that is the exception rather than the norm so it's more like a couple of days unless he has super sperm!

seven201 · 18/06/2020 15:35

I wouldn't worry. Not much you can do now. When I was on a different drug I didn't have a scan but had a 21 day blood test that the doctor said meant I'd probably released around 10 eggs. He asked me to do an early pregnancy test and for the first time in my long ttc journey I was glad it was negative!

Lifesforloving1 · 18/06/2020 20:23

@ivfgottostaypositive @seven201
Thanks both , I really hope my period comes 😂 x x
