Days off for egg collection even when WFH

I'm working from home at the moment (as are many people I'm sure!) and was hoping not to have to tell work that I am starting IVF later this month. I was hoping to take the day for egg collection off as holiday, but if I can't (ie if other people in the team are already off that day), then if I say I have a Drs appointment for the time of egg collection, how likely is it that I'll be alert enough to answer emails in the afternoon /evening after I get home from it? Obviously this won't be physically strenuous (I'll be sitting on my sofa) but for those of you who have experienced it, how drowsy / ill are you likely feel in the hours after egg collection? It's just that we are all quite close/people are pretty nosy at work and if I say I need the day off for a medical procedure people will ask what it's for, but a simple dr's app will likely not be questioned.
Thank you!

Does your clinic do it under GA or sedation? I had mine under sedation & was fine, slightly uncomfortable & a little tired but could definitely respond to emails.

That said, I had a major op under GA last year and I was perfectly capable of texting family & reading emails, playing games on my iPad half an hour after waking in the recovery room so you should be fine.

I had egg collection yesterday and it was my 5th one so a bit of an old hand at this now

I've actually driven myself home from all of them (DH doesn't drive) as I've felt fine. Also felt alert enough to look after a toddler.

It's the day after I always feel bloody awful - luckily today is Saturday! I always have a bad stomach from the antibiotics and suppositories and stomach feels sore. (They only got one egg and it doesn't seem to matter whether they got 1 or 14 still feels like I've been run over🤣)

In your set up if it's difficult to get the day off could you just have an awful headache for a few hours and make up the hours the next day?
My first egg collection I rang in sick as there was a meeting I couldn't have got out of otherwise.
The last few I've had I've worked from home (but actually in Spain as that is where I was having treatment) and was very prepared last time and drafted a lot of emails the evening before and hit send on some after the procedure and some in the airport waiting to board my flight back to London. At that point I also replied to some that had arrived that morning and planned to do a bit on the flight home but I think I was feeling a bit tired by then so read my magazine and made up the hours later.

I did feel uncomfortable and took paracetamol for a few days but not awful, a bit like period pain.

Also regarding nosy colleagues, you don't owe them any personal information unless you want to share it.

@ivfgottostaypositive hope you feel better soon.

I felt completely fine and back to normal by 3 hours afterwards. If I’d been working from home then getting back to emails after lunch would have been easily doable. However I know some women don’t feel too well so I imagine it’s fairly individual. Good luck! x
