Referral for PCOS

Me and OH have been trying to conceive baby number 2 for 2 years but with my PCOS we have had no luck! I'm an due to start my metformin tomorrow and am awaiting my referral for gynaecologist. Just wondered if anyone had been through the same and what to expect? The doctor has referred me to gynae for clomid. Is there any criteria to be able to be prescribed this? Thanks xx

Generally clomid is prescribed for anovulation. It is not usually prescribed to women with bmi over 35.

It is occasionally prescribed to men to help sperm.

It does not 'improve egg quality', as some may try to claim. It simply makes you ovulate.

I was in the same boat and my BMI was too high to get any support from the gynae. I went and brought Clomid online and although I ovulated the month I took it, I also did three other months despite having PCOS too. If you’re not over weight and have a scan and everything looks OK I think they’ll prescribe you it no problem! GL x

Thanks, my BMI is probably slighter higher than that but I think it will be a while before I get an appointment with everything going on so will aim to get my BMI down before. Thanks I have a 3 year old and fell pregnant with him when I hadn't been having periods for 6 months and thought number 2 might be easier to conceive but doesn't look that way. Has any of you ladies had any success stories whilst using clomid? Xx

Keto and low gi (like south beach) diets tend to be more successful for pcos weight loss. It may be that with weight loss you would ovulate anyway. Even 5% body weight loss is shown to fairly drastically improve fertility.

It sucks because pcos makes it much harder to lose fat, but fat is an endocrine disruptor and has a negative impact on fertility.

I didn't have any clomid success (and don't have pcos, just pco).
