icsi and very very low sperm count

Just wondered what are peoples experience with icsi and very very low sperm counts. My husband had 10 immobile sperm and they said it is an option. He's about to start hormones to bring it up but just wondered if that doesn't work is there any real chance for conceiving with that low a count?

Or will adoption/donation be our only really option if the menupur fails?

Hi there, our was 400 000 per ml. We went to see Mr Ramsay after failed IVF /icsi with nothing in the freezer. He ran thorough examination to see how we can improve our situation. The verdict was we cannot improve the quantity but can improve the quality. After 3 months of following his advice and advice of fertility nutritionist Mel Brown that he referred us to (loads of supplement and lifestyle improvement) we had a much better second icsi with 2 frosties and got pregnant on our overall 4th attempt with the last frostie. I'd say with icsi quality is much more important that quantity and I'd definitely suggest seeing a male fertility expert first.

Hi, I completely agree with the previous poster about seeing a male fertility expert first. My husband has azoospermia (no sperm showing in sample), however they did find sperm via Micro Tese / surgical sperm extraction, this was then frozen and we tried to use this for ICSI, however when they defrosted the sperm after my egg collection, the sperm was too weak and did not survive so the round was cancelled. We then heard about Mr Ramsay so had an appointment with him in January and he has been brilliant, really taking the time to look into our situation and he is very knowledgeable regarding male fertility. He has put my husband on meds to hopefully up his quantity and quality, with the view to hopefully go for ICSI again later this year if possible. It really does look like quality is the main factor with male fertility, my husband had just a few sperm found in his op, and had it been stronger it potentially would have worked. Looking back I really wish we had gone to Mr Ramsay before starting ICSI with our clinic, it would have saved us quite a lot of heartbreak and potentially money in the long run.

My ex husband had a low sperm count with morphology issues. We had IVF ICSI and had one top grade embyro transferred and ended up with identical twin girls who are now 5 years old! We were lucky first try.

We’ve just had a telephone consultation this morning to get our test results and recommended that ICSI is our best option due to low sperm count. After crying this morning through almost shock sadness and relief that we now actually have answers and a path I’m feeling much more positive reading threads like this!

Our journey starts here. I’ve ordered Imrpyl as the consultant recommended them in the meantime. Has anyone tried them?

That's him - he is based in London. He has been brilliant with us and seems to know so much about male fertility.

Supplement wise, I can't really help I'm afraid, my husband was advised to take Proxeed by our clinic, however as our round failed massively my husband does not plan on using this again, instead when we can get another appointment with Mr Ramsay, our plan is to go through diet etc with him and see what else we can do to help.

I checked his website out and he seems amazing. It’s great that you’ve got the insight from a specialist in male fertility, rather than simply here’s your results and the only options are ICSI but no focus on improvement in the meantime. We’re based in the North West but I’ll see if there are any up here or if Dr Ramsay does telephone consultations too but may be face to face only.

Mr Ramsay is offering 45 minute phone consultations to new patients, so the only thing you'd miss out on (well your DH) is a physical examination of the tackle.
He recommended Condensyl which is now Impryl so that sounds like a good thing, and as @Viletta says he recommends nutritionist Mel Brown.
