Reverse Low Sperm

Hi All

Me and my husband have been trying for 3 years now. I am in late 20s and he is early 30s. I got myself checked and all is ok. however his sperm count is low. The first time it was 2 million and the second it was 6 million. We have been told by a private clinic we need ICSI. We did have a NHS referral in april but that has been delayed due to the virus

is it possible to increase his sperm ? he is on wellman vitamins and does exercise. it is very worrying as we have been trying for so long

No cycling, no baths, no caffeine, no alcohol. Any improvements wouldn't be seen until at least three months afterwards.

With a count that low, he may not see huge improvements.

He might seek a referral to a urologist. But icsi might still be your best bet.

he has been working on improving it for over 3 months now, he wants a repeat test but everything is closed now

Is there anything else that he should be taking to improve them? has anyone else fell pregnant with low sperm?

Is he on any supplements? He needs selenium, zinc, high grade vitamin e and c.

How is his diet? 10 portions of fruit and veg a day - a smoothie is good for this.

Nuts like Brazil nuts are good for sperm.

Thanks for the reply. He is taking Wellman Vitabiotics Conception which are pack of 30. They are taken daily for a month. He is on Pack 3

He tries to have at least 2 fruit daily, but his diet could be better as goes for the easy option of food. He used to go gym but since lockdown we try and do daily walks together. He is a bit on the overweight side. I do have him on nuts that he eats whilst he is working

Hi there, I'd suggest seeing a male fertility urologist who would be able to advice why your partner has low sperm count and how to fix it before jumping to IVF. We went to Mr Ramsay.

My husband also has a very low sperm count. During our IVF consultation we asked if there was anything we could do to improve the situation.

Our consultant suggested Impryl. He said there were no guarantees it would help but it wouldn't do any harm either. Husband has been on it for a month. We figured we may as well give it a try.

It's not cheap but it is cheaper than IVF and at the moment it is the only thing we can do.

Husband has also adjusted his diet a bit. He argued that he ate healthily but when we thought about it we realised he eats an awful lot of protein meaning his diet wasn't balanced. He's a gym bunny so was taking daily protein shakes. He's cut out the shakes and reduced his protein. No idea if it matters but at least we feel like we're doing something!

We are in the same boat. First SA in February showed 2 million/ml count. Meant to be having a second SA this month but everything on hold. My DH has been taking 2 x omega 3 fish oil caps, D aspartic acid, maca root and wellman conception. He also tries to keep his balls cooler, sometimes cooling them with an ice pack (apparently it's meant to help...), increased fruit and veg intake and exercise to lose weight. Finding it hard to do everything as he hates nuts and will not eat them. Walnuts are meant to be really good.
I have looked into Dr Ramsey as well but worried about spending loads of money out straight away as we aren't exactly rolling in it! If I knew it would definitely help then we would but not sure what he could actually do? If he helped any of you would you mind sharing how exactly?

Hi @Emily324 and everyone else. Just wanted to reply to ur message. We are similar ages. My husband too has incredibly low sperm count, like almost nothing (over a year of collecting we only had 8 straws for treatment) and the ones that were there were not great quality / mobility. We had ICSI. We still managed to create an A grade blastocyst !! Unfortunately it didn’t implant but round two starting soon!

2 million is low but it’s plenty for ICSI/IVF . I have done a lot of research and over the last two years spent a lot of money for us both on different things people suggest. Then my mother in law said COD liver oil is meant to work wonders so he is currently on that and really hoping there is an improvement. Vitamin C too! Also don’t know if u have seen Game Changer but a plant based diet is meant to improve sperm quality too!

I am sorry to resurrect an old post but my husband and I are in a very similar situation in terms of our ages and sperm count etc

We have both gone into panic mode and are quite upset by the whole thing! I just wondered how you both got on and whether anything helped?

We did go to see Dr Ramsay in the end after we had 2 failed IVF transfers from ICSI. We found out my husband had high levels of DNA fragmentation. We then saw a recommended nutritionist who suggested diet changes. Lots of particular nuts, fruits, different foods etc. Dr Ramsay also put my husband on some medication. His DNA frag then decreased and the parameters went up. We did another egg collection in June after our final transfer failed (of the old batch of embryos). I finally had one of the new batch embryos transferred in November after some delays (OHSS and cancelled cycle). I am now 8 weeks pregnant. Fingers crossed this is it for us, it has taken so long to get here.
I think if we hadn't of done these changes and improved the quality of the embryos we would have just kept failing.
Good luck, I remember the panic and feeling so hopeless and lost but there is hope.

Hi @Narwhal88 congrats on your pregnancy. Sorry to hijack the thread! May I ask what specific fruits etc you were advised on? Did your OH take proxeed? Were the antibiotics for a hidden infection?

@Anonbaby mainly blueberries! They are magic for fertility, as well as concentrated blueberry powder. Walnuts 30g, hazelnuts 15g, almonds 15g per day, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. Watercress, avocado, tomatoes. A tablespoon of tomato purée a day (for the lycopene). All organic. Chicken and fish, not much red meat. He was also on impryl - Dr Ramsay switched him from Proxeed onto this. Nutritionist also recommended more supplements, can't remember them all now though sorry as it was a lot!! Her name is Melanie Brown.

Yes I had a micro biome test done which found high levels of bad bacteria so we both had antibiotics. They tested my husband for infections but didn't find any but apparently they can't test them all in men.
