Do you bleed with a miscarriage for IVF?

I am supposedly 9 weeks pregnant following a FET on our 2nd ivf cycle.
We had a scan at 6 and 8 weeks and saw a heart beat.
Since then I have developed eczema! I have never had this before in my life but I erupted all over my body and was covered in a rash which was incredibly itchy. My dermatologist said this is fairly common in pregnancy. I have been treated with topical steroids which I am worried about but had no choice.

I have had zero symptoms of pregnancy the whole time (apart from eczema) and I so worried that I might have miscarried. I know anyone can give a miscarriage but do you generally bleed with miscarriages in IVF or does the progesterone stop this?

You can have a miscarriage and not bleed, including with non-IVF pregnancies. The progesterone may make it more likely to not bleed but I'm not 100% sure.

But, if you saw a heartbeat, there is no reason to think you're miscarrying ! I've read that up to 30% of women don't have morning sickness (and probably other symptoms). That doesn't mean there's anything wrong. Myself I've never had any symptoms.

For what it's worth if you saw a heartbeat at 8wk your odds are excellent. I know it's hard when you don't show and don't feel the baby move, and the pregnancy doesn't feel real, but there's nothing you can do but wait.

If you're really worried and can afford it you could go for an elective private scan, but I must warn you that it will make you feel better for about 5 minutes before you start worrying again !

You could also get a doppler to listen to baby's heartbeat but this is generally not advised for two reasons :

• it can be hard to find the heartbeat which can cause unnecessary worry. Or sometimes people mistake the mother's heartbeat for the baby's.
• prolonged exposure to the doppler hasn't proven to be safe when handled by someone other than a medical professionnal.
