IVF failures@42 with 4cell grade A embyro, 2dt

Hi, I just have my 2nd failed IVF at 42 years, low amh but FSH less than 10

Round Nov 2019, 2dt : 3 mature eggs, 2 embryo's Grade A, 4 cell with none and little fragmentation

Round Feb 2020, 2dt : 3 mature eggs, 1 embryo's Grade B, 4 cell with some fragmentation. Tried embryo culture, scratch, booster shots but again no sign of implantation as well.

Running out of money and husband with morph 4 and then 3

Wondering if IUI might me an option or IVF is our only option

My doc is not the most sympathetic and keep suggesting donor eggs. We never get many so many to take them to 3 or even day 5

Does having good embryo at 2 day any indication? We did get preggo lat year naturally but had a chemical at 4ish week but no luck since.

Wondering why can't we even get an implantation. I also get some night sweats and fever around 8-10 days after

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this ?

Appreciate your help

I can empathise - I am 43, with good bloods, but my consultant explained that my eggs are just old and poor quality and the chance of having ivf which worked with my own eggs would only be 1-2% chance of a baby at the end of it. We had a long hard think about it all and have decided to go with donor eggs - where we are going has an 83% chance of a baby which was just too much of a higher chance to ignore... one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make - whether our desire for a baby was worth the compromise - and this is only something that you can decide...

Sorry to hear your cycles have been unsuccessful. It’s really hard.

Unfortunately at 42, few of your eggs will be chromosomally normal. The fact that you get few eggs also suggests your ovarian reserve isn’t very good despite the normal FSH.

The most likely reason your cycles have failed and the embryos haven’t implanted is due to poor egg quality and low numbers.

Does having good embryo at 2 day any indication? no it isn’t. Unfortunately many embryos can look ok at day 2 or 3 and still not make it to day 5 or implant.

IUI is likely to be a waste of money and is unlikely to improve your chances of success.

Although your doctor isn’t very sympathetic, what they said is factually and medically correct and donor eggs are what will massively increase your chances of success. I realise however that this isn’t an easy decision to make and may not be something you’re willing to consider.

I agree with previous posters at 42 70% of your eggs are likely to be abnormal. Why is your clinic doing day 2 transfers??? My eggs always look great day 2 but then I get large drop off by day 3 and then usually only 60% make it to blastocyst

On the other hand donor eggs isn't the answer to everything and doctors throw the option around so that they can maintain their published success rates. It's a big decision - for me genetics is everything and always will be

Why is your clinic doing day 2 transfers??
I’m assuming because with such small numbers of embryos if they tried to do a day 3 or 5 transfer there may be nothing left to transfer by then.

Yes I got 3 first cycle of which 2 fertilised, 1 out 3 this cycle. We did ICSI.
I wish I had the money to do repeat cycles but I am in London and Care consultant and everything there is an extra and more expensive !

Wondering if abroad is any good. My husband is from Denmark and it can be an option if there was any good clinic there

Have you had all the Level 1/2 testing? If not get that done. My consultant assumed the problem was my eggs when in reality I had several implantation problems and when fixed I got pregnant with the next transfer.

Another thing you should do is ask what supplements you can take to improve egg quality. I was advised co-enzyme q10 and pregnacare max, but some older women are advised to take other things on top.

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/03/2020 12:14

IUI isn’t going to be useful if ICSI and IVF hasn’t worked. It’s designed for young couples with no egg / sperm problems and can often take dozens of attempts to work.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2020 23:31

Not sure why they transfer at day 2

Yes the risk of not having et till day 5 means may not be any embryos left To implant

But if they don’t make it to day 5 in the lab they won’t implant on day 2 inside you iyswim

Yes look abroad - get info - skpe or go for a quick visit and chat

We did 2 Private in uk and then looked abroad - cheaper and imo better technology

EarlGreyT · 12/03/2020 07:13

But if they don’t make it to day 5 in the lab they won’t implant on day 2 inside you

That’s true, but clinics used to think say the embryo(s) inside you was better than them being out. Also, trying to culture to day 5 costs several £100 with most clinics and people often don’t want to spend that extra money to have nothing left at day 5. Putting them in at day 2 also lets people have hope for a bit longer rather than potentially finishing the cycle before you even get to transfer which is psychologically difficult.

We were once given the option like that and I decided not to “waste” another £500 on what I was sure was going to be another unsuccessful cycle (it was) anyway by getting the clinic to try and culture the embryo to day 5.

Hey gals,
On a confusing note I am almost 6 weeks, now and I had a HCG of 7, which as per my doc was NO because of residual HCG booster or its not viable preg. This was beta on 3rd March.

I am still getting a medium dark positive on HPT and today noon was as dark as morning one.
My last to last period was on 2nd Feb and current period was on 7th March after I stopped progesterone.
It was heavy for 2 days, my periods are usually not, with some clots.
I am confused. I have no symptoms except a little bitter mouth in the morning so dont want to get hopes going anywhere!
