Provera

Hi,

Hoping for some advice, We had our first fertility appointment this week, and I have been prescribed Provera for 3 cycles. The doctor said I need to take it for 21 days and then have a 7 day gap ( for period) and take it agajn.

I have had all tests done and everything has come back fine in terms of bloods and scans, the only thing I mentioned was I only bleed for around a day but My cycles are around 32 days, i temp and opk so I know I ovulate.

After getting home, I've been googling and it l can't find anyone who has been told to take it for 21 days; it seems people are saying it should be a maximum of 10? Also many are taking it with clomid.

I know the fertility doctor must know what he is doing but I'm worried, is there anyone else that has heard of this? Or that knows anything about Provera?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Maisy24 Smile I think we've been on a thread together before!

I can't help with the 21days suggestion, however I was prescribed it also at the end of last year as my periods are practically non existent! However I had to take it for 10 days each cycle, I'd then bleed around 2-5 days after my last pill! From my discussion with my GP I don't think it would do much harm taking it any longer? But if you're worried could you call your fertility clinic again to check?
Hope everything else at the app went well! I should hear regarding my appointment for my referral next week so we're in a similar position!xxx

I don't really know but it sounds as though it's been treated a bit like taking the pill? 3 weeks on, 1 week off. Perhaps it's to help with your bleed be a bit longer? If you're really not sure, defo call and clarify.

@ForeverHopeful67 thanks for the reply! Ah yes I think I remember your name. How are you getting on, did you think Provera was good then? I think I just need to trust the fertility doctor and follow the rules.

@YouBoggleMyMind thanks for the reply, yeah that's what I thought, but was expecting to find many others taking it for 21 days, then again not many people have a 1 day bleed as I can't seem to find much on that either online.maybe it is to make my bleed longer.

@Maisy24 all good thanks chick, nothing changed too much with me, currently awaiting confirmation of my first fertility app which I should hear back this week! Still have pretty much non existent periods so I hope they can help with that and make me ovulate!
I think the provera definitely did the job for me whilst I was taking it, but after the three cycles were up my body went back to its irregular self so I feel it just masked the problem really. They do say GPs like to use provera as a "test" to make sure your body is capable of having normal periods so I wonder if you may bleed for longer now! Fingers crossed for you xxx
