DH low sperm count and first appointment at Fertility Clinic

I’m a newbie here and feeling rather overwhelmed to be honest!

I have got my first appointment with the fertility clinic at St Mary’s Paddington next week. DH has a low sperm count, had bilateral undescended testicles at birth which he had an op for when he was a toddler and was also given testosterone as a teenager to help with growth. The sperm count was low at the most recent test and he is doing it again now, before our appointment.

We have been TTC for about a year now although there have been several months where I know that we didn’t DTD on the optimal day. I am struggling with the idea that we might be at that stage of going down the assisted route when, hand on heart, I know that there have been months where, realistically, we didn’t have much of a chance of conception due to timings. But then again, I am 34 so don’t want to hang about.

What are other people’s experiences of the first appointment with a known male factor? Of course, I am also an unknown although I do have regular cycles, albeit with a shorter luteal phase than normal, so this is also a case of checking me out.

Any advice really gratefully received!

Hi @Oresome it's a lot to take in isn't?! My husband has a low count and poor morphology. I'll give you a summary of our situation so far and hopefully that'll be helpful for you...
Went to our GP after 12 months of trying with no success. The GP ordered some blood tests for myself (all came back 'normal' and I have regular cycles) and a sperm analysis for my husband. The sperm analysis came back showing low count and poor morphology so the GP referred us to the fertility clinic. Had our first appointment about 3 months later. They took a bit of background/health information, the doctor reviewed our results then I had an internal scan and they arranged an appointment for my husband to have a second sperm analysis. Our second appointment confirmed the SA results and a request was put in to be added to the waiting list for IVF/ICSI. Now we're just waiting to get to the top of the waiting list. Happy to answer any questions that you have.

This is the exact same stage we’re at, we’ve been trying for a year but same as you missed every single month through one of us being away etc so we went to to a clinic. I’m 34 too. DH has just came back with a low count so is getting bloods checked next week. I’ve had an internal scan and my bloods so we’ll have a follow up appointment together as I have no idea about my results yet. But I’m regular so hoping they will be ok. It’s just such an unknown isn’t it and not really one we want to talk openly about really! So going to try cutting out alcohol and caffeine in the meantime and try and be as healthy as we can while we find out more X
