Fertility referral - PCOS/ low spent morphology

Hi

Been TTC (trying to conceive) for a year. We’ve been referred to fertility specialist and I’m slightly apprehensive about it after doing a bit of googling so wondered if any of you could share some positive stories/your own experiences.

I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) so I’ve got really irregular cycles (30 days-117days, on cholecalciferol) , immature follicles on an ultrasound and my partner’s SA came back as low morphology (1%). When I’ve googled most people have said they were advised IVF (in vitro fertilization) (which scares me a bit) is the only option so just wanted to see if you ladies had any experiences?

Are you UK based?. Initially at least you would be safer going under the NHS. You need to be treated in tandem; it is little point in solely treating you and leave him till much later on.

Who prescribed the vitamin D3 you are taking?. Its not going to have any real effect on PCOS at all.

Multiple semen analysis needs to be done as well; in the event that only one semen analysis has been taken this cannot as absolute proof. Has he been seen by a urologist?. It does not appear so.

It may come to pass that IVF is not needed at all. IVF should also be undertaken with great care in PCOS patients due to the risk of OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome). The three of you i.e. your own self, your man and the consultant need to have a series of conversations about this.

Knowledge too is power; find out as much as you can about PCOS and its various treatment options. This will help you make good treatment decisions.

Hi yes I'm UK based.

I've had the fertility referral through on the NHS and the appointment is on Tuesday.

We've had the semen analysis and came back as 1% morphology. My cholecalciferol was prescribed by the GP as my blood tests showed reduced vitamin d. I've also had an ultrasound which confirmed PCOS and immature follicles.

We've been told we're being treated as a couple now and I was just wanting advice from others who may have gone through the same thing.
