Proxeed or Impryl

Just after people's experiences of these supplements for sperm. We recently had our first course of ICSI, 5 out of 8 eggs fertilised but only one made it to blast and was poor quality (3BC). For round 2 the nurse suggested Proxeed or Impryl (used to be Condensyl) for my OH. I've done some reading about it and they seem very different - Proxeed is all about the antioxidants, but Impryl is about limiting exposure to strong antioxidants. I'm leaning towards Impryl as it claims to help the DNA quality of sperm whereas Proxeed seems to be more about count / motility / morphology - which we could do with improving but seems less relevant with ICSI. But I'm a little nervous as I've been so drilled into thinking that it's all about the antioxidants, CoQ10 etc! Does anyone has any experiences with either they can share?

Our clinic recommended one sachet of Proxeed and one dose of Condensyl initially. Low morphology is one of our issues (female factor as well).

Now going into Round 2, they are only recommending Proxeed and I’ve also got my husband on Biocare ASC Plus as well.

Hi,

My husband used proxeed for a few months before our first round ivf, and between June when he did the first sperm test and jan, his sperm count doubled, motility issues went from slow to normal and morphology improved a bit too.

He did also make lifestyle changes too so that might also have helped.

Never head of the other option so I can't really say which if any is better but we had a positive experience with proxeed.

Thanks both! So much information out there. My feeling is that if you are doing ICSI then sperm count and motility etc doesn't matter so much as they can just choose the best ones. (Assuming you have more sperm pass the test than you have eggs.) I assume it's more what's inside that counts. I don't know if there's any scientific basis in that theory though!

Hi! I know this is an old thread but wondered how you got on @MissHoney85 - we got some bad new re SA today. Extremely low morphology - wondering is you managed to improve your OHs numbers and if you've not got a baby / going in that direction. Hope you are and hope you're okay. X

My 13 month old DD is currently sleeping on my chest! We conceived naturally in the end about two months after I started that thread. I think the main thing that helped my DH's count was a change in diet. He finally started to address a 20+ year old digestive problem by cutting out gluten and basically going low fodmap. By the time we did the IVF (about two months after starting the new diet) his count had already doubled from 6m to 12m. We also used some supplements called FH Pro for Men which are £££ but have all the right stuff in the right quantities, so that might have played a part too. Good luck!

Impryl worked well for my husband. Morphology went from 2.5 to 8% after he had been on it for about 6 months. We haven't had a test since then, hopefully we'll see if it wasn't a fluke when we start IVF soon. Count didn't change, it was almost identical at every test he's done to date but it wasn't an issue so that was fine. He was also on Ubiquinol and a few other standard ones for most of that period.

We also did a sperm fragmentation test at the same time as that last test and that was good with 0% high damage but admittedly there was nothing to compare that to from previous samples so hard to say if that was because of the supplements.

oh, I'm sorry I just realised this is an old thread!

Congrats on your baby @MissHoney85!

Amazing news @MissHoney85 - that really is so great.

We got a 0% morphology so we are pretty devastated rn. Very high Motility which is great but also below average concentration, but not terrible. I've bought some proxeed - I've seen it mentioned so many times. So we are going to retest in 3 months and see if we can improve the numbers. I've just spent the whole evening in tears basically and my OH feels terrible. Urghhhh.

Thanks so much for your positive story. X

That is an amazing improvement @thislittlebird !

He now will take Vit D, Ubiquinol, Vital DHA, zinc and Proxeed. That is the one I have seen mentioned most. I'll have a look into the one you guys are using. Thanks xx

@FlyOnTheWall89 I have seen an old post (back when I was researching male factor) where a man posted what worked for him and I think his clinic had him have proxeed and impryl on alternate days! Worth a read, will link if I can find it.
