'Day 21' Blood Test

Hi everyone I wonder if this is the right section to ask this on. I had day 21 bloods done and the results came back as 25.6nmol/L , I have read that it should be over 30 to indicate ovulation? I haven't spoken with my GP about my results yet so I'm not sure what to think. Could it be that my progesterone is low or that I'm not ovulating at all? Any helps would be appreciated! Thank u x

That result indicates probable ovulation but doctors like it over 30. I had the same result last year. If you ovulate later on in your cycle having the test done on day 21 may not be accurate. Should be done 7 days after you ovulate. My test has since gone up above 30 and that was without ovulation induction. They’ve put me on clomid anyway! Good luck x

@JandL2020 thank you so much for your reply! Do you think it's likely they will repeat the test and then put me on clomid if it's of a similar level? I use ovulation tests so I'm fairly sure the test was done on the right day, there or thereabouts. I have heard your progesterone levels can increase dramatically over just a few hours though? It's all so complicated! How have you found the clomid?

After my blood tests and partners SA I was referred to hospital fertility clinic. Waiting for that I went private for more blood tests including AMH and HyCosy to check my tubes were clear. Clomid is prescribed by fertility specialist not GP usually x

I was told I wasn't ovulating - turns out that I just ovulated later in the month than day 21, but doctors weren't testing later in the month! I was put on clomid unnecessarily and gained weight quickly and was also angry and emotional (think PMT x 1000)! However, many people have no side effects on clomid at all. Good luck. Sorry I have no idea what my levels were as this was six years ago!

I am having bad side effects too and only first month. Hate it!

I have had this test done about ten times... I always have it tested between 7dpo & 9dpo (can't get tested on a weekend) and it has come back between 45 & 90.

They ideally need over 30.

It varies so much each month so definitely best to get it tested again before any meds.

@JandL2020 thank you for explaining that, I kind of had it in my head that clomid was a 'fix' but I naively forgot about all of the side effects that come with it!

@nearlyfullycooked thank you, I'll do my research before going any further with it if that's the option I have to take

@SlothSF thanks for replying, so I guess my results show ovulation but not very strong? That's such a variation! I'm sure I'll have them repeated before any other actions are taken

They might want to do serial blood tests, so maybe on days 7, 14, 21 and 29 to get a better idea of your hormones over then entire month. Day 21 is fine, IF you ovulate on day 21. But if cycles are much longer or shorter, or you ovulate at a different day of the month to the 'average' then serial bloods tests might be needed. Best of luck x

You ovulate or you don't. And 30+ is an indication you did. But o know women who have had a lower result but a scan has confirmed ovulation.
I've had many scans and they've always seen I've ovulated - I can usually feel ovulation anyhow.
Just get retested again next month.
They often do a day 3 progesterone too.
