Egg donation overseas question

Hi all, still a bit new to this site, I hope I'm in the right place. Trying to avoid the grumblings of AIBU.
I'm looking for comments and advice please.
I am planning to conceive using donor egg and donor sperm, and although I am British I am looking at overseas clinics purely to reduce costs.
So far I've looked at Spain, Greece, Cyprus, etc., where they mention anonymous egg donors from Eastern Europe being a match for UK women. Is there anyone here who has gone down this route?
I plan to be open with future child about their origins, so it's not that I want to secretly pass off a child as my own, but still I would want a similar appearance if only for the child's benefit of feeing that they fit in.
Am I overthinking this, do eggs of all nationalities mostly grow to look the same?
Should add that I also looked at Denmark where I would have a biological link but the waiting list for egg donation is too long.

I traveled for IVF to Malaysia with a Ukrainian egg donor. The clinic price is much lower (I used the help of Fertility Associates clinic)and the legal regulations allow commercial egg donation. I don’t think egg donation in Spain is any cheaper than in the uk. Greece is a little cheaper. Not sure about Cyprus.

If you go to Greece for treatment they have to ensure the donor is phenotypically like the recipient. My understanding is that this is a legal requirement in Greece.

It's illegal to pay for egg donation in the UK, that would probably be the main reason for travelling abroad. It is completely legal in Spain during the last 20 years or so.

Just to say as a mum via egg donation i am absolutely the real and biological/birth mother. Went through hell during my pregnancy and nearly died giving birth. Massive c section scar across my tum to show for it all.

No it wouldn’t. The main reason to go abroad in my opinion is shorter waiting lists, cheaper treatment (sometimes) and because you can more easily get an exclusive donor so get all the eggs your donor produces (rather than an egg sharer where you only get half of the eggs collected). In the uk to get an exclusive donor you generally have to go through an agency like Altrui who have a fee and a long waiting list.

I have to agree with dozer that in some countries egg donation is not altruistic and is “selling” rather than donating. The possible exploitative element of this is unacceptable in my opinion and for that reason I would definitely avoid using a donor from somewhere like the Ukraine where desperate women in poverty sell their eggs for income.

I do agree with @ChocolateGateaux84 that there are people on mumsnet who come on the infertility boards and post judgemental comments when they have no experience of infertility. However unless you like twee language, unrealistic over positivity and “baby dust” fertility friends is not the place for you!
