IVF at Guy's & St. Thomas' & general process/timeline

Hi all,

This is my first ever post, but I've been following for a while. :)

After having all the usual tests, including a hycosy and hysteroscopy, we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility a while ago. We have now finally waited long enough to be eligible for IVF on the NHS. We've got an appointment back at Guy's & St. Thomas' tomorrow (we had to see the GP and ask to be referred back as we've now waited the required time frame).
I'm not 100% sure what will happen tomorrow, but I'm basically hoping they will agree we've waited the required time and suggest we get the ball rolling for IVF, i.e. fill in our funding application, etc. I'm really hoping this will happen, I can't face being sent away again after we've waited so long...
What have your experiences been? Does that sound like realistic next steps? Has anyone been at Guy's & St. Thomas' and can share their timeline?

Thank you!

Evening all

This is my first ever post and was hoping for some insight as to what to expect.

So i am 31 both me and my partner are police officer. I have had 2 ectopic pregnancies which resulted to me having both of my Fallopian tubes removed.

In April my doctor referred me to guys ACU, I have had all the relevant bloods etc that needed to be done. Last week myself and my partner had a telephone appointment with the reproductive clinic where I was told on the phone I met all the requirements and that I would be accepted for one round of IVF.

I was told the funding takes 8-12 weeks, today I received a phone call and have an appointment at the ACU clinic next week

Could anyone tell me what will happen on this first appointment ? Does this mean the funding has already been approved and I am ready to start the process?

becarefuloutthere · 16/06/2021 20:17

@RiverRiot ooh! Defo don't test before 9dp5dt if you can because of the trigger. You don't wanna be second guessing yourself! Best of luck!🤞🏾
@Welshpea aww thank you so much! Hope you're well?!
@Sarah2328 hiya! Sounds like funding is approved so you'll sign consent forms at your meeting and have more bloods taken. You'll get a scan as well to count your follicles. Has your partner had a semen analysis yet? They'll do one of those if not so that they can determine whether to use icsi or not. Best of luck for next week!

Sarah2328 · 16/06/2021 20:24

@becarefuloutthere thank you so much for your reply. Wow if that is the case, that was very quick. My partner had a semen analysis in April, so not sure if he would need another one?

Thank you so much

becarefuloutthere · 16/06/2021 20:34

@Sarah2328 mine was quite quick too tbh. I had a laparoscopy in April and then was able to start a few weeks after that.
No he won't need another one then. They'll take blood from him I think. So when they called to make the appointment did they say funding was approved or not? Did you get an email with the funding letter on after the call?

Etonmess20 · 16/06/2021 20:51

@Sarah2328 welcome!! That is super quick, have you filled in questionnaires about yourself/your partner? Unsure whether this process is normally done in the hospital (myself & DP did them online but this was end of Jan so were in lockdown). When we had our appointment we got confirmation of the appointment via email as well as a letter confirming what our CCG would be funding & had approved

Sarah2328 · 16/06/2021 20:51

@becarefuloutthere no they didn’t say anything on the phone today just said they had an appointment for me next week within the ACU.

However last week when I had the consultation over the phone with the reproductive clinic they asked the borough I lived in and said it should be easy to get the funding.

So fingers crossed the funding has already be accepted.

Sarah2328 · 16/06/2021 20:55

@Etonmess20 many thanks for your reply. Yes I filled out questionnaire for myself and my partner a few weeks back.

I’ve not received a letter about the funding but when I was on the phone last week for my reproductive appointment the woman stated that i was approved for one of IVF round but the funding takes 8-12 weeks.

I’m just a little confused as I’ve not received a letter to say they have the funding but I have my first appointment next week.

Etonmess20 · 16/06/2021 20:59

@Sarah2328 oh it's all sounding positive then! Hopefully it is approved then & then you can join the waiting list to start treatment! 🙏🏼

Sarah2328 · 16/06/2021 21:06

@Etonmess20 thank you fingers crossed, do you know how long the waiting list is to start by any chance?

Etonmess20 · 16/06/2021 21:13

@Sarah2328 so when I went for my consultation appointment we were told 2-3 months to start treatment. It's been just over 6 weeks since my appointment & I haven't heard anything yet. Hoping to hear in the next couple of weeks

Etonmess20 · 16/06/2021 21:13

@Sarah2328 frustrating to feel like you're getting somewhere but in reality you're just joining another queue!! 😂

Sarah2328 · 16/06/2021 21:36

@Etonmess20 arghhh that’s so annoying, you get through one process and have to wait for the next. Well many thanks for your help and good luck with your process

Etonmess20 · 16/06/2021 21:48

@Sarah2328 so annoying isn't it? But at least this should be the last queue you're about to join!
Thank you & good luck with everything, let us know how you get on next week

Vparisi · 16/06/2021 22:40

@Sarah2328 helllo from a fellow tubeless member. I had funding approved in email prior to that appointment and yes so @etonmess20 and I had our appointments you're about to have on 4th May and we are still waiting to hear....so keep an eye on this thread and hopefully 6 weeks after we get our call to start you will too! Good luck next week x

Sarah2328 · 17/06/2021 07:08

@Etonmess20 thank you for your help and support, I wish you the best of luck. Keep me updated

@Vparisi sorry to hear you are tubeless too, thank you for your reply and I wish you the best of luck too, keep me updated

Xx

@Rj1988 If I am not wrong your EC was today? How did it go? I hope more eggs managed to grow!

@Sarah2328 Hi! It seems the process is much shorter now. We applied for funding in Dec and got the approval end of Feb. Then the first appointment in end Apr. So its great they are moving quicker now!
In dec they told me I may need to wait 1 year for the laparoscopy( becouse of Covid). So in order to speed up the process I did the surgery in my home country. Now I waiting for the call to start the treatment...

Sarah2328 · 17/06/2021 13:21

@HereToLearnAndShare many thanks for your reply, how long have you been waiting to start the treatment?

HereToLearnAndShare · 17/06/2021 14:08

@Sarah2328 this is the 7th week for me now.

Sarah2328 · 17/06/2021 14:12

@HereToLearnAndShare oo wow, did they say how long you will have to wait to start?
