IVF at Guy's & St. Thomas' & general process/timeline

Hi all,

This is my first ever post, but I've been following for a while. :)

After having all the usual tests, including a hycosy and hysteroscopy, we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility a while ago. We have now finally waited long enough to be eligible for IVF on the NHS. We've got an appointment back at Guy's & St. Thomas' tomorrow (we had to see the GP and ask to be referred back as we've now waited the required time frame).
I'm not 100% sure what will happen tomorrow, but I'm basically hoping they will agree we've waited the required time and suggest we get the ball rolling for IVF, i.e. fill in our funding application, etc. I'm really hoping this will happen, I can't face being sent away again after we've waited so long...
What have your experiences been? Does that sound like realistic next steps? Has anyone been at Guy's & St. Thomas' and can share their timeline?

@GJW2018 fantastic number! You must be so pleased. Hopefully you'll have one put bk in very soon! Did you opt for just one ET? We did, it didn't seem like they liked to do more than one, on the first go anyway.

I’ve had mixed messages from doctors/nurses some have said that we can put them back in next cycle (when I next come on which should be end of this week apparently) whereas others have said I have to have a cycle off inbetween and have another proper period as this one will be a relief bleed from all the meds so still unsure. They just said to call when I come on and will go from there so will either be put back in in a few weeks or about 7 weeks but I feel the time pressure is off now just want my body to be in the right state to make it stick so I’m not fussed either way! Yes they have said they will only put one in. The doctor did say when I asked if the embryos are of poor quality they would consider putting two in or if I was older but in the paperwork we signed it went through their legal obligation to minimise multiples. I’d have them shove all 17 in if I could!

We signed to say one as well. I'm sure if they're all bad quality and it's our last go then we'd ask for two. So how long do you have to wait until you know for sure how long it'll be before transfer day?

@GJW2018 seems like you have the right idea waiting to see how you go - you've been through it with the process the past few weeks so maybe a little break wouldn't do you any harm.
I thought the exact same about only putting one in, I feel like 2 would give us all more chance though I get they need to be responsible.

@notyetamumbuttrying they just said when you get tour period call us and we’ll sort it. I would like a more clear timescale to work to but I’ve asked so many times and seems to be the only response I get. Hopefully I can get another consultation to go through it all. I’m on half term next week so can pester then!
@Etonmess20 I know it felt like forever when we were waiting but as soon as you get that call it’s go go go. Actually feels weird not going up there this week I think I got a bit too used to it!

@RiverRiot @Vparisi @GJW2018 thank you ladies! Yeah meds are ok now, just that menopur needle is thicker than the other one so I always struggle to get it in. One more buserelin this morning and then go in. I still have fyremadel in the fridge so I wonder if they'll say do that now until trigger. Will keep you posted!

@Vparisi aw thank you! So follicles are too small to collect yet. So booked in for a day 12 scan on Saturday where hopefully I'll see some growth! Apparently you can stim for 14-15 days so I'm not too worried yet! More injections for me then 🙃

@notyetamumbuttrying hopefully your scan on Saturday shows growth & you're ready for a collection next week! Bet you feel like a pin cushion don't you!

@notyetamumbuttrying we had exactly the same and had to go back a few days later. Our egg collection wasn’t until day 18 so hopefully you’ll be in and popping them out in no time. So exciting! Sending plumpy egg thoughts! 💫

@notyetamumbuttrying Gah sorry you have a few more days of the needles! But on the upside hopefully it’s better to be too slow than too quick so that they’ll be nice and mature when they’re ready. 🐣 Good luck for Saturday.
