IVF / PGS at 40

I'm wondering whether to try ivf again at 40. I'm thinking if we do then to look at using pgs. My doctor has said that generally 1in 3 blasts are genetically normal at 40 which doesn't seem too bad. On average we collect 2 blasts per round so could bank a couple of rounds and then test in the hope of finding a normal one after which the success rates are around 70%

Has anyone done this and if so how many did you test and what was the outcome?

Or does anyone have any experience of ivf at 40?

I'm 36 decided to PGS on second round. Got 2 blasts one came back complex abnormal and and the other mosaic - we were allowed to transfer the mosaic but it didn't take. You are not allowed to transfer abnormals in the U.K.
most people I know who have done PGS and who are younger than you only had 20% of blasts come back normal.... so bear in mind how could end up with nothing to transfer after multiple rounds

I would only PGS if you get lots of embryos and need to prioritise which to transfer. If you are happy to transfer mosaics then don't bother PGS either

I want to pgs because of age as well so even if numbers are relatively low I would still do it as want to rule out trisomys. That's interesting that people you know only had around 20% success rate. I did it at 36-37 and had around 50% success rate with blasts which is inline with what the doctors told me to expect. Did you mean 20% success from number of eggs collected rather than blasts?

Hiya only 20% of all of the blastocysts were PGS normal

I was 40 when I did my first 3 rounds. Used PGS for the first 2 an had no Euploid embryos, just one "no result" from 7 tested embryos.

I stopped using PGS on the 3rd round as I was not even getting the chance to transfer. 3rd round I transferred and pregnancy ended at approx 5 wks.

Just to add to this...we are still trying and 4th round at 41.
No PGS and are doing another collection and fresh transfer. I have 2 embryos frozen and the 3rd no result frozen.

Sorry to hear that @Violet180 it's really hard. Were they all blasts that you had tested? I really hope your next round is successful and it's great you have frosties. I am in a fortunate position that previous treatment worked for me so it wouldn't be my first baby but I do feel like my family isn't complete. I don't know if it's going to take too much time and money though and whether we want to put ourselves through it again that's why I was interested in others experiences. If the stats my doctor gave of 1 in 3/4 blasts being normal at 40 I think we could manage it but it seems like that isn't the case for a lot.
