What to expect after laparoscopy?

Hi everyone, I’ve never posted before but was wondering if anyone has any advice/experiences to share about recovery and ttc after laparoscopy?
I had the procedure a couple of days ago along with dye to check tubes (unfortunately they attempted hycosy a couple of months ago and it didn’t work) and hysteroscopy.
They found a little endometriosis behind my womb, but otherwise everything ok (so relieved as was convinced tubes were blocked)
Feeling pretty sore, have 3 incision sites, the gas has mostly gone now but was so sore under my ribs and hard to take deep breaths for a couple of days
I’m interested to know how long I can expect to bleed for and whether my period might be different/late this month? Hopefully will be less painful than usual at least now endometriosis is removed!
Supposed to take the dressings off today which I’m quite nervous about as I don’t know what I’ll find underneath!
Any advice/experiences appreciated, really hoping this will increase our chances of conceiving soon (has been nearly 2 years now).

Hi @Kataa
I had a lap 3 weeks ago to remove a large cyst. I think everyone is different, but I ovulated as expected and then my period was actually 2 days early which I was surprised by as I have heard laps sometimes delay periods.
My period was a bit heavier than normal and lasted a bit longer, but not much.
After a week I was feeling much better and by 2 weeks almost back to normal. Good luck!! x

Hi @FlapJackered thanks so much for your reply 😊. It’s been nearly a week and I’m still not feeling quite myself but good to know this time next week I should be about normal again!

Hi Kataa I had a lap and dye about 10weeks ago and ovulated and had my period after as normal, although nothing was found so during my procedure.
I found the wounds quite neat but one did take a while for the stitches to disappear but all good now. Good luck!

@Kataa hi just came across your post, I had a lap at the end of October and tubes checked too. Tubes were clear and I had an endometrioma treated on my right ovary and endometriosis treated on my bladder. I too was worried about my period and ovulating. My period came as normal but bleeding was slightly heavier than usual but nothing concerning and according to opk I'm ovulating around about now. I have also been ttc for 2 years. Good luck to you sending lots of baby dust Grin

Hi @LottieDot and @HE88 thanks for the replies, that is reassuring to know, I didn’t do any opks this month so not sure exactly when my period will turn up but expecting it in the next few days, interested to see if it’ll be any different without the endometriosis!
The surgeon did say that our chances might be slightly better for the next few months as a consequence of everything being flushed through, so best wishes for you guys too! 😊

Hi @Kataa how are you getting on?

Kataa · 06/12/2019 17:52

Hi @HE88, I’m doing ok thanks! Had my follow up a couple of days ago. She said the endometriosis may have been preventing me from getting pregnant, so might have better chance now it’s removed. She’s also agreed to up my thyroid medication as my levels are still a little high (and if that also makes me feel less tired and sad I’m all for it!) We have been told to do our best for next 6 months and if we don’t conceive then we’ll need to look at ivf, but she was fairly positive we’ll be able to conceive naturally.
My period came and it was less painful than usual, I only took two paracetamol, took some time to work but then I was fine and didn’t even need to take another dose! (Used to be a 2xpara 2xibuprophen at regular intervals for a day and a half type of girl!).
How are you doing?

@kataa that's good to hear fingers crossed for some positive baby news for you.
My follow up isn't due until January so until then I'm left to it. Got my hopes up too much this cycle but think I'm out did a test earlier today but it was a bfn and I've had spotting that last couple of days Sad. Xx

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/12/2019 18:25

I had one years ago. Both tubes blocked.
I found that after the pain in my shoulders had gone everything was back to normal.

Kataa · 07/12/2019 15:57

@HE88 yeah, I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much whilst also trying to be more positive than I have been the past few months- it’s a really hard balancing act! Hope your spotting is implantation rather than AF, but it’s still early days! Trying to see this time after the operation as being like a fresh start with hopefully normal chances of conceiving. Xx

@Kataa it would be fab if it was implantation bleeding af is due tomorrow so we will see.
Thats a good way to look at it Grin xx

Hi @HE88 any progress with you? I’ve ovulated fairly late this month (day 17/18/19) which annoyingly coincided with my partner being on late shifts and then unwell, but hopefully managed to do just enough. Weirdly my ovulation test went straight from low to peak fertility with no ‘high’ in between which didn’t happen last time I used those ones.
Hope you’re doing ok 😊

Hi @Kataa af showed her face so out this cycle. Fingers crossed for this cycle. Oh this happened to me I got a few days of low one day of high then straight to peak strange but possibly my body getting back into the swing of things after the op. Xx

Kataa · 15/01/2020 07:53

Hi @HE88 thought I’d check in and see how you’re doing? I’m mid way through my second cycle post-op.

Hi @Kataa I'm doing good thanks I got my bfp Grin. Hope you are doing well have you ovulated yet? Xx

Kataa · 16/01/2020 22:06

@HE88 I was so hoping you’d say that! Huge congratulations!

I ovulated a little late, probably around Sunday. Hopefully dtd enough as my partner has been on shifts since Monday so we haven’t had a chance since!
