Hystereoscopy, with general anaesthetic or not?

Hi All! Have been booked in for a hysteroscopy to check that everything is ok after last round of ivf failed and I raised some concerns. I was told that I could have it under GA or not. Struggling to decide. Anyone had it with or without? What did you do and what would you recommend? Thanks!

With - very straightforward, felt absolutely fine afterwards.

I had one without (just diagnostic for a look round) and was fine. I walked home afterwards!

I had one without. It was a Myosure procedure to remove a uterine polyp, which basically skips the diagnostic part and goes straight to the removal of polyp part.

It was a bit uncomfortable but manageable, and I only had a small local anaesthetic injection into the cervix. I think some people find it very painful, depending on the reason they need one e.g. endometriosis patients may find it hurts much more.

If you've had the whole speculum and catheter malarkey already, personally I didn't find it much worse than that. I was also told during my one that at any point I could ask them to stop if it hurt too much, and they could reschedule and do it under GA instead, so that was reassuring.

Sorry to add negative post, but I found it unbearable (no pain relief) and they had to stop. They said I'd had something called a 'vasovagal reaction' which only happens to around 1% of women so chances are you'll be fine! The only good thing was they fed me tea and cake after!

I had mine with local anaesthetic, was fine I was joking on with the nurses throughout and they had to tell me to stop laughing as I was jiggling the equipment too much . Drove myself home afterwards.

Ok! Thanks for your responses guys! They’ve been really helpful! Think I’m going to go with GA only because Ive just remembered the dr saying that if they do find any abrasions (which is what they’re looking for) they will remove them and I’m thinking if that’s the case I’ll prob have to book another appointment to have it done via GA. I’m quite keen to get this all sorted quite quickly so I can have my FET do think I’ll let them knock me out so I can get whatever needs to be done, over with!

I had one yesterday, I just took some ibuprofen beforehand, yes it was uncomfortable but certainly not unbearable.x
