Buserelin

Hi - not posted in a while (needed to take some time out to try and get my head "in the game").

My IVF meds arrived this morning. Start Day 21 on 24th October, naturally anxious.

Anyway, the Buserelin meds have "for use in men only" written in bold on the packaging. I've done some googling and it appears that there are two forms of Buserelin: Suprecur and Suprefact. The latter being the one I have, which seems to indicate it's prescribed to men and the former to women. Research seems to indicate the same active ingredients are in both but one cheaper to manufacture...

I just don't know whether this is definitely right?

Does anyone have any knowledge?

Thanks x

I’m fairly sure I’ve heard of both being used and when I google I see ivf pages come up but also those pages saying just for males. Hmmm. I used suprecur when down regulating I think. But you’re not starting for a few days and I’m sure if your clinic/dispensary have made any mistake they’ll be able to sort it out for you by the 24th. Obviously I don’t know where you live but I could buy a bottle of buserelin at a pharmacy in my city on the same day, so it’s not as tricky to come by as some of the other meds.

There is currently a national shortage of Buserelin so you may be being supplied with a different “brand” of it but it will be the same drug. I’ve been warned I may have to use the nasal spray version if they can’t get hold of the injection

I had exactly the same stuff, and the same reaction! It's fine, my clinic said it's the same drug and fine for us to use (the nurse commented that it panics lots of people - would help if they warned us, then, maybe..).

Yes I was on that for my 1st icsi cycle.. mine said for men only lol x

Thanks everyone. I'll give the clinic a call in the morning... even if it is just to put my mind at rest!
It was scary enough unpacking the big box of meds let alone seeing the "for use in men only" stamped all over it xx
