Immature follicles - can you ovulate?

Hi! Hoping someone can share some advice with me!

currently TTC my second. First was conceived with clomid 150mg. When trying to conceive him, on lower doses of clomid I would always have 1 follicle, 9-12mms, that would grow between CD 10-14 scans.

this time around, tried a cycle on gonal f, managed to grow a 28mm follicle. Did a trigger. Unsuccessful cycle. Have never had to do a trigger before. This cycle, for some reason the FS put me back on clomid, only 50mg. Had a scan today, CD14, 1 follicle, 9mm.

now here is where I am confused. FS has told me that it is impossible to ovulate with an immature follicle. He’s said to start gonal f, for a week, then go back for a scan and trigger etc. I would have said that I M ovulating today/tomorrow. EWCM, ovulation pain, peak opk etc.

explained all this to him, he said no, it’s impossible. Asked him why I have all these symptoms every single cycle if my follicles are always immature. Always get AF 14 days after I think I’ve ovulated. Again he said it’s impossible.

Has anyone experienced similar? This is a different FS to who I saw when TTC my first. She never told me I wasn’t ovulating.
I have no idea what to do, if I should use FSH when I think I’ve already ovulated. Will it affect my cycle? Make it longer? I don’t want to waste a cycle, but I also don’t want to mess with my cycle either!

help please! I am SO confused! Gosh, I hope this makes sense!

I had an immature follicle around cd14 (around 12mm I think. Dr told me I wasn’t going to ovulate. Ovulated day 23 (I was charting and doing opks) and got pregnant with my DD
