Hi all,

I'm 31, my partner is 45. We havent been using contraception for 2 yrs but nothing to report. I have PCOS and have had a laparoscopy and cyst drilling done about 3 yrs ago.

So we are in the process of being referred to a fertility specialist and I have had blood tests in preparation for this. They were taken on day 21 of my (irregular) cycle. I went in today for something else and got a print out of my blood results. I know they will be explained by the specialist but that could be months away yet. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on them? Trying to work out if I have ovulated or not!

Yes. You ovulated this cycle. A result above 30 for progesterone confirms it. Your other results look standard for this point in your cycle.

Have they also done cd2-5 tests?

Were you ttc when they did the ovarian drilling??

The ovarian drilling was done prior to TTC by about a year. I assume they havent done a cd2-5 as the only results I had were the above (other than standard liver kidney etc stuff). I've not had a positive ovulation test in the 6 months I have been doing them so there is some positive news then.
We are just waiting to hear back after GP had referred us so I expect more tests to be done at the hospital. Thank you for that, reassured me that I'm not completely useless!

Ovarian drilling is often a fertility treatment to encourage pcos women to ovulate. Opks often are ineffective for women with pcos, so it's not surprising that you don't find them helpful (false positives being the more common way they don't work as women with pcos often have high lh levels, which is what they test for). But I digress...

So I had been trying to say something was wrong for a long due to heavy irregular periods and the other rubbish that comes with PCOS. After years of arguing (they said my ultrasound didnt show anything wrong) they sent me for an exploratory lap as I had started getting excruciating pain. Whilst under they found cysts on both sides, but also one ovary had twisted round and had got stuck to something else. So I assume the drilling was done as part of the course of me being under. No idea what state everything is in now however. Pain hasnt come back like it did, but the standard stuff is all the same 🤷‍♀️
