SA Analysis - your experience

Hey folks!

How long do results usually take? Partner had his SA almost three weeks ago but still no response.

I read online that if it's not normal they do another one three months after, is this true? It just seems to push the wait time back so much father :(

I think with NHS 3-6 weeks is normal - quicker with private

IVF clinics tend to prefer them done every 3 months as that's how long it takes for a single sperm to be made and mature and be released

Our gp one was done in December and we never got the results until March. Mostly because the gp receptionist wouldn't tell us the results so we had to wait for an appt. Our fertility clinic one (they wanted to be 100% sure of the go findings) we had done 16 weeks ago, we don't find out the results until our appt next week. I'm sure we could have rang up and asked for them if we really wanted. But its extremely unlikely the gp was wrong!!

Maybe posting here helped move things on! We have a letter through the post today for my partner to call the GP and arrange a telephone appointment for him to discuss his results.

He's at work just now so won't be able to call I presume.

And AF just arrived for me also, always hopefully that it won't! :( at least I know we are closer to having results now though!

My DP has his SA on Friday 27th September, and we can see our consultant on the Monday (30th) for results. We’ve chosen to see the consultant the next Monday 7th October. Maybe it’s so fast because it’s private (follow up to a vasectomy reversal).

Does anybody know what happens for results? Do they give you the normal parameters compared to your personal results? And how many things do they measure?

Is SA something that is repeated because results can change? Or are your results just your results?

So we got the call today with the results, unfortunately it came through half an hour earlier than we were expecting and we were out with the dogs still so my other half took the call and I wasn't able to hear much of it.
He's not that great at remembering or understanding what was said. He said he was told there are two types of sperm, and the ones that make babies a normal percentage is 4% but his results for this are 1%?
I'm really confused and don't understand. I went back into the doctors and asked if they could send a report over of it so at least I can see this and maybe do some research to figure out exactly what the issue is?

I've to go get more tests myself before they will refer us to a fertility clinic though. So booked in for day 21 bloods on the 10th October. Will they do much else after that?

Oh and they can fluctuate. My partners weren’t great the 1st but were much better 2nd time. Possibly due to him just getting over a cold / fever the first time

@willithappen I had had some bloods done before we got the results of our SA so we got referred straught away as the results showed azoospermia. Hopefully once your blood results come back your gp will refer you to fertility services. There is no benefit in being referred now because you still need all the tests, so we have had a huge wait inbetween appointments to get all the tests done. Fingers crossed that your report clears things up for you

@willithappen just reading your posts. My OH had a SA back in June and has just done another one last week. Waiting for the results still. His urologist told us that his sperm count was 30 million & his mortility was fine, but the morphology (shape of sperm) was 3% and they like it to be 4% and over to be considered normal so she sent us home to buy some antioxidant vitamins that he takes daily. Selenium, coq10, folic acid, garlic, omega 3, multivitamins. Maybe try with the vitamins to increase the %. Hope this helps

Would the percentage be the morphology then that he was talking about?
My OH didn't quite pick up on it properly, he was saying about there being two types of sperm and one is good but the other is at the 1% so honestly no idea what it means now

You have 3 factors to sperm

*motility - how fast they swim & what direction they are swimming in

*morphology - shape of the sperm heads and tails

*sperm count - how many sperm are in that
ejaculation.

I didn't even know any of this I just thought if you had a good sperm count then your fine but when me and OH went to his urologist appt to get the results this is what she told us. Because my OH count & mortility was good urologist wasn't at all concerned about his morphology only being 3%, 4% being considered 'normal range'. Try the vitamins and see if that helps. Are you on Clomid?

Get copies of all results. If you're with the NHS they will fob you off. Knowledge is power.

We've asked his GP for a copy of the results from last week but still not had anything through or a call back from them. I'll have to chase it up for sure!

Just updating for anyone who wanted to know

I was at my GP this morning to see about getting my day 21 bloods back and discussing next steps (my results weren't back yet, need to call tomorrow). I asked at the time about my partners results for the SA because we didn't quite understand over the phone and she actually spoke me through them, got them up on the screen (my partner wasn't in the appointment with me). Everything on his results was above average, including sperm count and motility but it was definitely the morphology that was at 1%

I've been trying to read up because we have been unprotected for five years now and I thought maybe if it's only morphology we might have had a hint at something by now and some studies say they morphology doesn't affect it that much? (I'm disagreeing personally but reading online got me worried)

So now I'm worried there's something wrong with me. I have been pregnant before when I was younger which ended in a MMC. Because of this doctor didn't think anything wrong with me.

She has referred us to the fertility clinic now already, which I guess is good as less wait. But they don't have my results back yet and I thought they would take longer tbh! I'm worried they are not looking into me as much and that there may be stuff with me now
