Ivf support. Thinking of backing out of it

Hi everyone, to cut a long story short I start injections tomorrow. But I’ve not been sleeping because it’s constantly on my mind, I’m so so scared about it all and I don’t know why because it could be the best thing that happens to us if it works. Yesterday I was even thinking about not going through with it because I’m that scared, is it all as scary as it seems? Please help, Iknow I sound like I’m been silly ☹️

Definitely normal, you'll feel better after the first injection is done. Then you just have to do that for a week or so, lay down for a bit, then have a very easy smeartest type procedure are you're done! I didn't find it too stressful. Good luck!

It's really not that bad physically. The injections are fine and don't hurt. The scans are fine, no pain. Even egg collection is easy because you're sedated. The hardest part is the waiting and when results aren't always good you find a way to cope. But it's absolutely manageable.

Thankyou for both your responds. That makes me feel a little better. I’m not sure what bit I’m worried about tbh. This is a little silly question but when they do the egg collect is it done in theatre or just a room like you would smear? 🙈 I hate needles too but I’m sure they will be fine there not too large are they 😂 xx

That’s exactly how I felt before the first injection. It’s a huge package of feelings. It’s really hard to make yourself stick the needle in the first time. It gets easier quickly.
For me after the first day I felt better because finally we were doing something. There was also a period where I was sure it was never going to work (3rd round) but it was a consolation to not have the regret of not having tried.
It did work that time.
At the time it felt like we lived in the fertility clinic. Now when I walk past it I can’t believe how small a part of our lives it turned out to be.

My egg collection was done in a room that looked more like a dentist’s than anything else. The sedative is great, you don’t know anything about it, and the afternoon sleeping it off was pretty nice.

Egg collection is done in a theatre but you are completely knocked out, it's a lovely sleep. I had mine yesterday and I feel fine today as if nothing happened. It took me ages to do my first injection, but after that one I found I actually liked doing them as I felt like I was a step closer with each one.

Ohh I am so glad this feeling is all normal, I can relax a little lol! Yes your right it’s really not that long is it, not if it all works and you get what you’ve wanted for so long. Thanoyou. I’m glad, I hope mine is, it worries me to think I may need to go into theatre xx

Really 😮 I was told I won’t be completely nocked out, it will just be like strong pain killers. 🙈

@Stacey2007 my advice would be after each injection to treat yourself to some chocolate or something. Reward yourself! My egg collection was done on a sedative in a theatre with fantastic staff. I was awake the entire time but completely away with the fairies!

I felt totally the same- I just did my first injection - having spent weeks thinking-
What if it doesn't work? And then
What if it does work?!!

It's been a total rollercoaster emotions and you're not alone - just take every day one step at a time and keep talking- I find that helps.

You aren’t asleep at all but the sedative means you are completely tripping. There was a picture of penguins on the ceiling and I was talking to them. I didn’t have any idea about needles or anything because I didn’t know that I wasn’t a penguin.
It’s really not so bad.

You’re not being silly at all. I hated the injections, and ended up having to get my dh to do them, because I just couldn’t do anymore. Egg collection was quite a nice feeling, felt like I was drunk and fell asleep!

I had a countdown for the injections, so I knew I only had to do x amount more and then it was done which might help, and I also numbed the area with peas and listened to chirpy songs to get me through. I am 110% pure wimp.

It sounds like different clinics might do the sedation slightly differently, I was totally knocked out both times, completely asleep, no memory except waking up.

I'm feeling exactly the same.

Bit further behind than you, as all going well will have injection teach start of October and start injections a few weeks later. We had our first proper appointment with the clinic we've decided to go with on Monday and it was so informative but so informative it scared me with all the detail! The injections, the pessaries - all of it! Just kept thinking "so unfair why do we have to do all this"...

But then AF showed up again today and it's strengthened my resolve to just push on. I've had lots of medical procedures in my life and so just got to go with it!

Apparently, I was awake during part of my egg collection and as they wheeled me out, but I have zero memory of it. Hot water bottle after egg collection was quite helpful.

Egg collection was very straightforward.

I've just had severe/critical ovarian hyper stimulation, which included a week spent on HDU. It wasn't pleasant, and I'm still recovering, but if necessary, would go through it again. Please note, this is extremely rare and I've been pretty unlucky.... but my point is, you soon "forget" even the worst experiences when so motivated for a positive outcome. You sign a consent form really never anticipating this will be you, but you just deal with it if it happens. Good luck

I got all stressed about egg collection too but it was ok mostly. Couldn't feel a thing, the worst bits were the nurse muffing up putting in the IV for anasthesia (tedious) and the bit where they were trying to arrange me on the table, and that was only bad because there were three nurses all telling me things at once. Once I'd said "TOO MANY PEOPLE please talk one at a time" it was ok. Other than that the worst of it all was the egg release injection, felt like I'd been kicked by a horse.

Quick question for everyone, did anyone get a rash round there’s after injecting ? I’m worried

Yes, it never lasted very long though, some were itchy too.

Little bit red and annoying for a few days when we went to the high doses. Not really bothersome.
