AMH results

I had my first consultation at a fertility clinic last week.
My AMH result is 0.79.
I'm 40.
Not sure where to go from here.

Could anyone advise me who had similar results.

Did you have an FSH and antral follicle count done? My AMH was 2.2 and I was advised to use donor eggs as my FSH was also high, if your FSH is within range and you have a reasonable antral follicle count you may respond with an aggressive stimulation if the clinic are happy to let you try treatment with your own eggs

Is this a UK clinic as American AMH levels are stated differently and so so look abysmally low compared to UK levels but actually aren't

If you are in the UK then yea that is incredibly low and most IVF clinics won't treat you with your own eggs at that level. Most will advise donor eggs but it's not for everyone

You could try a specialist clinic who specialise in low AMH like Create who also offer natural IVF - if you want to use your own eggs that's possibly the only option you've got

I agree natural may be an option, a lot of clinics don't treat with an AMH of under 2, like PP said natural modified could be an option for you where the aim is to get the one egg usually but the success rate is very very low and there's a very high chance of a cancelled cycle, it's a tough one as a lot of clinics would suggest PGS due to the high number of embryos with genetic abnormalities at 40 but obviously that's not an option with low AMH

Can I just clarify the figures.
The 0.79 is ng/ml (I believe this measurement unit is more widely used)
That equals to 5.7 pmol/l.

When others mentioning their figures, which units do they mean?

It's the 5.7 one which is used more widely
In the UK

I believe in the American system 0.7-0.9 is considered to be on the low end of normal but it's below 0.6 which is considered really really low

I'm in the UK, but every time I researched AMH figures, I always got the ng/ml one, that is why I've quoted the 0.79 figure.

The clinic gave me the result of 5.7 pmol/l, so when looking at others' results, ( 3.2, 2.5 etc) I assumed that it was ng/ml.

So basically I'm on the low end of normal, which is expected at my age I guess.

Yes it's normal for your age sadly. It doesn't mean that IVF won't work just that you'll likely get fewer eggs

5.7 isn't so bad. Mine was 3.1 and I've been pregnant 3 times since that measurement.

Mine is 7 point something and I successfully conceived DS. I don't think that's a catastrophic result at 40 at all. Try not to worry too much

UK tend to use PMOL/L that's what my figure was in
