Problems with down reg. Really upset

Has anyone been in this situation. I’m attempting to start an FET. I started nasal spray on day one of period and went for a scan 5 days later and was told ovaries are quiet but lining is too thick still and to come back 2 days later to make sure it’s thinning out . I went back and it was thicker and they said my ovaries might be producing estrogen even though I’m on the down reg spray. They gave me two injections of progesterone and said hopefully I’ll get another bleed and then come back for scan next Friday.

I’m really confused by this situation , has anyone heard of this? I have no faith in this cycle now and I’m worried I won’t even bleed as my body clearly isn’t responding to the drugs. I don’t know what they’ll do if they don’t see what they want next week, cancel the cycle I assume! The nurse didn’t really explain much and just said ‘it’s not what we want to see at this stage’

I don’t reallt know what to think as I can’t find anything similar to this situation to read about!

Also I’m confused how a shot of progesterone would cause a period? I took this throughout my successful cycle to stop spotting I had?

Any help is much appreciated!

I never respond to down reg so every time I had to take a course of norethisterone after a few weeks down regging to get a withdrawal bleed to shed my lining, you will get the same when you 'withdraw' from the progesterone, it's fairly common and shouldn't impact your cycle

Ok glad to know it’s quite common. I already had a light bleed but my lining kept growing even though I was on the nasal spray! Just anxiously awaiting a proper withdrawal bleed and hoping we can get going soon. I definitely don’t trust my body to do what it’s supposed to now so fingers crossed it comes.

I know it's really stressful when things don't go to plan but often they don't! Mine was a donor cycle too so I knew my donor was waiting on the pill to starts stims and I was delaying her as she was egg sharing with me. For my last cycle they down regged me with one shot of prostap instead which did the trick. Good luck for your cycle

Thank you. Yeah it’s so stressful because I’m only here until the end of the month to do the cycle so time isn’t on my side! How long did it take you to get your period and be able to start? I egg shared on my fresh cycle and the experience was very different because I didn’t have to down reg at all, just went straight to stims from day 2 of my period.

I didn’t respond well to down reg either. FIVE and a half weeks it took to get me shut down. Mind I never had any side effects. Hated stimming the worst even though that was shorter.
Don’t lose faith - I remember feeling gutted but I got my bleed and all came good in the end.

Wow that’s crazy long! Did you have to have a jab of something To bring on a second bleed? Was your lining also getting thicker and not thinner? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just going a bit out of my mind with all this stress! I asked the nurse why my lining was still growing and she said ‘sometimes our bodies don’t work the way we want them to’ not really a satisfying answer when trying to go through an ivf cycle! 😩

Mine ended up being 5-6 weeks too, as annoying as it is sometimes we don't respond how we should and our bodies 'overrule' the down regulating effects the meds should provide

Cauliflower82 · 02/09/2019 19:50

I was taking buserelin so already on injections - I just had to keep going with them. My lining was too thick but I didn’t ask if it was getting thicker or thinner tbh, but once I got a bleed, I was completely shut down and lining had thinned to an acceptable level. It’s crazy, isn’t it. I completely overresponded to the stimming too and suffered from ohss.

That’s funny because I also was quite over stimulated and nearly had to freeze all. Maybe there’s a connection. They gave me a progesterone injection and said hopefully it will bring on a second bleed to thin the lining but nothing yet! They seemed to suggest they’d just cancel if it didn’t work, Which seems unfair because as lots of people have said, it can take a while!
