So frustrated with Clomid

Any advice out there what to do next?

I’m on my 4th month on 100mg of Clomid and nothing seems to be happening. My cycles are slightly more regular but no BPF. Because it is secondary infertility we don’t qualify for NHS IVF (totally fair enough).

But I don’t know what to do now. Is it worth going private for more tests? I don’t feel like the NHS ones actually told us anything. My day 21 levels were a bit low but not very. That was the only thing.

Has anyone used an Ovusense?

bless you. what tests have you had done? I'm secondary infertility too.

what was your day 21 result?

KatBeCool · 30/08/2019 00:36

My specialist says "Clomid is like candy for ovaries, gets them excited with no results" and he never prescribes it alone for that reason but always together with gonadotropins. I was on Clomid for four cycles with no result. Now I'm on letrozole and Gonal F, in TWW.

BelleSausage · 30/08/2019 07:02

Thanks!

It is just so frustrating. I’ve had about six Day 21 tests, the day 2-3, the HSG (awful, awful, hated it). Also two internal ultrasounds to look at my ovaries. DH has had a sperm test.

Is there more than this? Is it work going private?

Hope all goes well for you Kat

Are your private or NHS?

No help to you OP sorry, but to the poster about Clomid not working. It's helped plenty of people and I for one have a DD solely due to Clomid.

bubbaflash · 30/08/2019 08:46

I'm just wondering what your levels are?

what are the results you've had, perhaps we can offer some advice based on that?

EL8888 · 30/08/2019 08:54

What progesterone number did you get to from taking Clomid? How are they monitoring you? Are they monitoring you? NICE guidelines said you should be scanned but I never have and they said they won’t in future

We have had NHS and private tests. Part of the private test was getting my AMH measured which was useful. Still got a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. Have been prescribed Clomid despite NICE guidelines saying it’s not suitable for unexplained infertility. I appear to know the NICE guidelines better than the staff 🙄

KatBeCool · 30/08/2019 09:55

@BelleSausage I'm private. Have you had your TSH and vitamin D tested? Those are important and affect ttc.

@Scrumptiousbears Clomid helps some people, sure. From everything that I read, if your body just needs a slight push, whether it's to ovulate or to produce multiple follicles, it might work alone. But if your follicles don't mature, Clomid doesn't help here.

BelleSausage · 30/08/2019 22:10

Thanks for all the replies.

I can’t remember the results and the consultant didn’t write them down for me. All I remember is that it was only just under expected. There was a clearly ripening follicle on the internal scans when I had them. They think I do ovulate but either very early or alternate months.

At the moment I’m getting no tracking other than a day 21 blood test every month. They haven’t even told me the results of these. Which is fairly frustrating. I don’t even know if it is working. Apart from the terrible ovulation boob ache I’ve had today!

Support much appreciated. I might approach DH about having some more tests done privately. I haven’t had my vitamin D checked.

Hi @BelleSausage - I'm new here, and just starting my journey into infertility, and going for an HSG soon, very interested in hearing more about your experience of the HSG as I've heard/read that most people don't have any pain... Was yours very painful? I'm a bit nervous about it!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/09/2019 13:02

Why was cloned prescribed, was the reasoning explained behind this decision?. The treatment you are receiving is not good here and I would be contacting PALS at this hospital.

Would not bother with the ovusense, you are beyond the stage of using such a thing and you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/09/2019 13:04

HSG should not be painful particularly if the dye is injected both slowly and carefully. It’s a useful tubal x Ray test to have done as it can show up any deformities inside the tubes.

68degreesnorth · 13/09/2019 13:59

@AttilaTheMeerkat ok thank you :)

maz7777 · 13/09/2019 14:02

I'm pregnant after being on clomid. I was being triggered and monitored too which I think is important.

BelleSausage · 15/09/2019 08:44

Thanks. I do feel the treatment has been sub-standard. I had my final consultation today. I didn’t know it was my final one. Last time she said my levels were too low (29 n/mol) on day 21 and she was giving Clomid as I wasn’t ovulating.

She originally said 6 months at 100mg and 6 months at 150 mg but then suddenly changed her mind this consultation.

She also forgot I was not eligible for NHS ivf. Very annoyed.
