Laparoscopy - any experience of it?

Hi All

I'm booked for a laparoscopy in 5 weeks time. I just wondered if anyone could tell me their experiences of it? how you felt afterwards, how long you needed off work etc?

I've had 2 last year. They went okay the worst pain for me afterwards was the gas in my shoulder I had a week off work after.

It was fine...you're out of it.

The worst was the gas and bloating afterwards. I was off for just over a week and felt really really tired. Good luck!

I had one several years ago, and had one week off. I just felt slightly uncomfortable and bloated.

Pump your arms as you walk - the shoulder pain is from your lungs being pushed upwards by the gas they pump in.

It was sore for a good few days, I took a week off work then just took it carefully.
Stock up on peppermint tea! Oh and be careful with the pain killers.., the one I took bunged me up big style!

Had one two years ago, I was definitely very sore for quite a few days. Doctor signed me off for two weeks because I had a long commute on the tube.

My core was pretty wrecked afterwards, I'm not sure if that was because it was an emergency operation as opposed to scheduled though.

Hi, I had mine in May. I had a pre op a few days before where they explain everything (like what time you can have your last food and drink).

On the day the consultant came to visit first thing, then we waited around for a while. I think the actual procedure only lasted 40 minutes, then it takes a while to come round from the anaesthetic.

I have two tiny scars, which you can hardly even see now. I got signed off for two weeks by the hospital. I have a long commute so I really appreciated that.

Also have to wear surgical stockings for two weeks, which were weird!

I had one recently - had one day off work and then two days working from home. Am still a bit tired 3/4 weeks on. I do an office based job.

I had one in June and felt horrendous for over a week after. Went back to work after 2 days which I shouldn't have done as I was in a complete daze, tired and in quite a bit of pain. The trapped gas is painful but the worst for me was the stomach cramps (shooting and stabbing pains) and the stitches, they hurt at first but also got infected so had to go on antibiotics for a week.

I had my left tube removed completely and right one flushed out twice. Don't know if I was in more pain than some people because of having the tube out and the dr obviously poking around for quite a while inside of me 🤮

My advice is book at least a week off work and have meals prepped & housework done so you can properly get some rest afterwards xx

I had one 20 years ago, took the day off afterwards and then went back to work. Probably should have taken longer off. Was told I had a partially blocked tube. Got pregnant a couple of months later after previously trying for 4 years. Good luck with it all.

Had 2. Took few days off work. Not a week. Shoulder sore but otherwise ok
