Scarred tubes - but open. Chances?

Hi All,

Me and DH have been ttc DC1 for 15 months and all our tests came back ok except one. My HSG has shown that I have scar tissue in both tubes but they are both still open (the dye was able to pass through but it didnt flow how it should).

The consultant said that I should still be able to conceive naturally as the tubes aren't blocked but I'm not convinced. She suggested a lap&dye test to try and remove some of the scarring and access how "bad" it is. I agreed and have one booked for 2 months time.

However she also said we could skip this and go straight to IVF. So far we've said we want to try naturally for a few more months given her earlier comments -and are hoping the lap and dye will increase our chances.

Does anyone have any experience of this either way? Or really any advice in general? When I've googled all I've been able to find are stories of people going straight to IVF or those with fully blocked tubes so I'm beginning to think we're just delaying the inevitable.

I don't know if my tubes were scarred but I did have scar tissue around them from my c section - even though they were confirmed clear on the HSG tests I still went on to have 2 ruptured near fatal ectopics in 18 months and had to have both removed

As upsetting as it is to be infertile now I'm relieved that we aren't playing Russian roulette with my life/health bow they are gone - we start ivf next month

Sorry about your ectopics, wishing you luck with IVF. I've read that having scarring increases the chance of ectopics as does the laparoscopy although my Dr didnt mention any of this. I'm doubting my decision of delaying IVF now

I would request the referral for ivf to get things moving as the waiting lists are long in some areas and then see if you can have the lap and dye in the mean time - I've not heard of this removing the scarring though x
