Who / how to pay for the IVF medication?

We have had a cycle of IVF agreed by the NHS. Where we live they outsource it to a private clinic, we have chosen 1 off a list of 5. I assume we will have to pay for the medication? If so, l assume pre-paid medication certificates will help to save some money? Roughly how much might the medications cost? (I know it’s hard to tell as everyone is an individual but a ballpark figure would be useful)

I don’t remember paying for medication on my NHS round. If I did it was only the price of a prescription. When I did it privately it was £1000+!

With some NHS rounds you can get a prescription from your GP so you'll pay the standard charge per item but a lot of GPs won't agree to write the prescription so you may have to pay.

My private round on short protocol mild ivf was £1000 with all the extra bits like progesterone steroids and blood thinners but if I had done long protocol it would have been more like £2k

We paid nothing for our NHS funded cycle. The clinic arranged all the drugs and had them delivered to me.

I paid the standard prescription rate. I got the three month prescription card for about £30 and that covered it all.

Aaah it seems like this part of it is a post code lottery as well. Thanks for your advice / experiences
