HSG test, PCOS, waiting for Clomid!

Hello,

Thank you for reading my thread, I'm just looking for some advice regarding a HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) test.

Some background info - Sadly we suffered a MMC in January I had to have a D&C and AF never really retuned to normal. After being seen by a consultant I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin, I don't think it's helped at all..

The fertility doctor wants 3 tests done before starting me on Clomid, my next appointment is on the 2nd of September and I'm soo keen to start the clomid then!

The problem is the HSG test.. the test according the the letter should be done a week after AF, but I'm not having AF so I could be waiting months !!! They are reluctant to proscribe any medication to induce a bleed. Seems crazy and extremely frustrating! But I'm running out of time before the 2nd of September to have the test done and sent back to the consultant.

I had some extremely light spotting yesterday, so rang and booked in saying I had started my period, but truthfully I haven't and the bleeding has since stopped.

Should I phone to cancel my HSG? Or just go and have it done ? From what I've read online the only reason they want carry out the HSG a week after AF is to be certain there is no chance of pregnancy. I don't think it effects the procedure at all? I'm thinking of just going to the appointment... any advice I'd really appreciate !

Thank you ! X

It is possible that was your AF. If you didn't ovulate, and the cycle didn't go well, it's very possible that it's all you get blood-wise. Just go ahead and get it done.

I had a hsg in June. My letter said if you have irregular periods to contact them ASAP to discuss.

The ask you if you have had sex since your last period and if you have they won't perform it. So don't have sex between now and the hsg and it should be fine - if you're sure you're not pregnant?

Maybe get in touch with the hospital and see what they recommend.

I'm sorry about your mmc, I had one on April and its just awful 💔 Good luck.

Thank you for your comments. The hospital won't preform the HSG until I have a period.. I could be waiting months and I'm so keen to start Clomid. I think I'm just going to take a Pregnancy test before and let them think I've had a period. Sorry to hear about your MMC they really are awful. Lots of baby dust your way xx

I had been waiting to have mine done for ages i had a april but didn't get an appt my next period wasn't until June again didn't get an appt and my results appt is on 13th aug so i lied . My periods are extremely erratic and can last a week to 6 weeks I wasn't risking it and not getting an appt.
we just abstained from dtd and i got my appt and had it all done

Not saying it was the right thing to do but sometimes needs must 🙈

@smarty14 I don't blame you! That's exactly how I feel! Im glad you managed to get your appointment in the end!
I'm just worried they will be able to tell I've not really had a period? By the thickness of my lining? or is it really just so there is no chance of pregnancy? we will of abstained for 2 weeks before the appointment, this should be long enough! And we've been trying since January so it's very unlikely ! Thanks again for your input it's very helpful to know others are in a similar position xx I hope everything works out for you xxx

They didn’t check my lining at all, the dating is to be certain you are not pregnant because the procedure could damage a foetus.

In your position I would do the same - abstain, take a test and go along.

@Helena112 they are literally looking at your fallopian tubes; i watched the whole thing.
They won't be able to tell, honestly i think its so they don't disrupt a possible pregnancy. I knew I wasn't pregnant or even a slim chance of being pregnant.
There is no measuring of lining at all. They literally put in a tube to your cervix put in some dye and see where the dye goes. And then its over.
They even do a pregnancy test at the beginning to check.
My friend urged me to stretch the truth to get my appt otherwise who knows how long i would of been waiting.
I feel relived its done now as i'm sure stressing over getting a period to then get the procedure done wasn't helping
Xx
